Want to make your student lettings feel like home?
Going to University is a huge and exciting step. For many, it means moving away from home for the first time. Whether it’s in the same city or on the other side of the world. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make the room feel like home. Here are some tips on how to make student halls feel like home!

What Is A Student Let?
Student lettings are tenancies signed by students. A student, likely at University, signs a tenancy agreement for the whole property. This student then often sublets rooms to other students as lodgers. This is providing the landlord agrees to the property being sublet. Don’t assume this is the case though, make sure you clarify this before signing any agreements.
You’ll often start your student life in a rented room in private accommodation or in University Halls of Residence. As with any rented property, it will probably come with restrictions on what you can and cannot do. So sorry, guys, but you probably can’t paint your walls the same colour as your room at home!
It’s All About Photos
Keep familiar faces around you and bring plenty of photos of family. A digital photo frame allows you to change the images as often as you want. Alternatively, you can simply print photos (we hardly ever prints photos now – it’s nice and novel!) and frame them to place in your room. Take plenty with you so you can change them as you feel like it.

Familiar Bedding
You might not be sleeping in your own bed but that doesn’t mean it can’t feel like your own bed. Take your own bedding from home – your duvet, duvets covers and even any other cushions, soft toys or accessories you might have on your bed back home.

For good measure, wash it before you leave in the usual detergent you use and take the same detergent with you. This will give you a great feeling of home in your bedroom, as you settle down to sleep at night.
Bring Your Own Curtains
Ok, so maybe this a step too far for some of you. But if you really do want the familiar feeling of home and you’re allowed to do so in your accommodation contract, why not bring your own curtains and put them up in place of the ones already there?

Yes, it can help with the feeling of familiarity. But in addition, sometimes curtains in rented accommodation might be a bit thinner or thicker than you like. Maybe you want more or less light in? By bringing your own curtains, you can control that to some degree.
Make It Smell Like Home
Halls of Residence, even if they’re lovely, simply don’t smell like home! And actually, some of the older ones might not smell that pleasant at all. By bringing the same air freshener or candle or plug in you use at home, you can make student halls feel like home.
Smell can be a really powerful sense in terms of how you perceive the area around you, so making your room smell more like home could really make you more comfortable.
