Do you want to make your very own creamy oat milk at home? With just 2 ingredients and a standard blender, you can and in under 3 minutes too! Here’s how…
Is Creamy Oat Milk Simple To Make?
Yes! It’s so simple, you’ll wonder why you’ve been buying your oat milk for so long.
Oat milk is simply oats and water blended together – minus the pulp of course!
Flavoured Oat Milk
Of course, if you’re making this recipe yourself at home, you can make it pretty much any flavour you like.
From strawberry milk by adding in strawberries to the blender. To chocolate milk by adding in some cacao powder (NOT cocoa powder).
You could even give it a nutty taste by adding in a few nuts, or peanut butter to the blender. If you have the ingredients, you can make your oat milk taste however you like!
Ingredients Needed
- 100 grams rolled oats
- 600 mls water
How To Make Creamy Oat Milk
Probably one of the easiest things you’re ever going to make at home.

Add 100 grams of rolled oats to 600 mls of water to a high-speed blender and blend on a high setting for 45 seconds.

Then strain your liquid. You can do this using a pulp bag, muslin cloth, tea towel – or anything similar that’s clean. However, make sure you aren’t left with any bit of blended oats in the liquid. If you do have some, keep straining it until it comes through clean. (Sometimes nut milk bags can let a lot of excess pulp through, so if this is all you have, try to fold it over a few times to make the holes smaller).

If you want your milk to be slightly sweet, try adding a dash of honey after you’ve strained it and give it a good stir.

This creamy oat milk is perfect for adding to your overnight oats, your coffee, morning cereal, porridge – or anything else you want to use vegan oat milk for.
Homemade Oat Milk – FAQ’s
How To Stop Oat Milk Going Slimy?
The most common way oat milk will end up going slimy is when it’s over blended. Make sure you don’t blend your oats and water for longer than 40 seconds and this should prevent any slimy-ness from occurring.
You also shouldn’t eave your oats to soak in the water either as this can cause them to go slightly slimy. Only add the oats and water to the blender when you are ready to blend. Don’t leave them sitting in there waiting.
Which Oats Are The Best To Make Oat Milk?
Rolled oats are the best ones to use for making oat milk – in our experience anyway – especially if you want your oat milk to be creamier.

Over the years we have tried this recipe with many different types of oats but the ones we keep going back to are these Organic Thin Rolled Oats from KoRo. (BECKY5 for a 5% discount site wide).
How Long Does Fresh Oat Milk Last?
In a sealed glass jar in the fridge, your oat milk should last up to 4 days.
Why Does My Oat Milk Separate?
Your oat milk will separate if it’s left to stand for a while. Separation is totally normal, just give it a good shake before you use it.
