We all get really excited about doing and starting our New Year’s Resolutions. But how long do they actually last for? I’m guessing most of you have probably fallen off the wagon already when it comes to keeping them going continuously. Am I right?! There are so many ways to get active and stay active.
Instead of trying to massively change your lifestyle over night, perhaps just add one or two bits in to your regime, things that will fit into your life and something you enjoy so you’re more likely to keep it going. Plus, try thinking of these things as fun things to do and because you want to, not because you feel you have to and that it’s more of a chore. If you feel you have to do something it’s never going to stick!
To help you get motivated, here are some activities you could try if any take your fancy…
Running
This is great no matter where you live and how much money you have. All you need is somewhere to run and a pair of running shoes or trainers an that’s it really, especially if you’re just starting out and not sure if it will be something you enjoy doing.
You don’t need all the fancy running gear or the latest MP3 player, your mobile phone in your pocket playing some of your favourite tunes will be good enough to begin with. I find running outside much more interesting than running on a machine staring at a brick wall. You get to have the wind in your hair and you actually get to see what’s around you, whether that’s the countryside or buildings and architecture in the cities.

Swimming
Ok, so this one is the one I will always go to if given the choice of activities, I actually think I’m addicted to swimming…love it! I love that for an hour (or however long it is), my brain thinks of nothing but my stroke, breathing, technique and the lines on the bottom of the pool. It’s a great form of exercise as it works every muscle in our body and for me, it’s a great stress buster.
Again, you don’t need all the professional equipment, just a towel and a swimming costume is all you really need to begin with. You can always add to your gear if you decide you love it and want to continue with it. It can be a bit expensive (depending on your leisure centre prices) but if you can go at odd hours, the price generally drops quite a bit.
Hit The Gym
Again, this one isn’t all that cheap so maybe see if you can do a trial first before signing up to a long contract. Many gyms actually allow you to pay as you go now which is amazing! If you are looking to work with a personal trainer than I would suggest you try the gym as your activity as you will have all the equipment you need without you having to go out and buy bits yourself.
Personally, I find the gym tedious and boring, especially when it gets busy and you have to wait to use the machines you may really love it, many people do, it’s just personal preference. Although one great thing to do – either at home or in the gym are to do some squats while lifting weights as they are the best workout for tightening your vagina…great hey ladies!!
Golfing
I’ve never actually tried proper golf, mini golf is as far as it ever got for me and I wasn’t that great at it but it’s something I would love to have a go at. As I understand from my father-in-law, you do need to have the proper clothing for playing golf or there is an etiquette when it comes to clothing on the golf course so if you do intend to try your hand at golf, take a look at options on offer at Function 18 Golf Apparel who will be able to point you in the right direction. I believe you can hire golf clubs at most golfing places but maybe check before you go just incase!
