It happens to us all. We fall in love with the most expensive items for our home and realise in order to be able to afford them we’d have to sell everything just for that one thing. Yet that still doesn’t stop us daydreaming about having a few luxuries in life. However, there is hope for us yet. As getting that look on a budget isn’t impossible. Here are a few tips on how to get the luxury look without spending stupid amounts of money.
Freshen It Up
Give your home a fresh coat of paint, it can do wonders to any room instantly. Be careful with colour choices, as a richly-coloured wall like a warm grey or cranberry will need light- coloured furniture to balance it all out. Look out for a paint that has the right mix of gloss-to-matte ratio and you can’t go wrong.
Display Fresh Flowers
Displaying fresh flowers can do more than you think. A simple cheap bouquet from your local supermarket is all you need to add that little bit of sophistication. Separate the stems and create several small arrangements around the house. If you need a vase for them, try one with a matte finish.
Hang Your Curtains High
The most luxurious homes have the highest of ceilings, so a trick to make your space look bigger is to hang your fabric curtains as close to the ceiling as you possibly can. This will create an optical illusion and make your ceilings seem higher.
Light
Switch from a standard light fixture to something bold and more elegant like a chandelier; no, they don’t have to cost hundreds (or thousands) of pounds, you can pick them up online for less than £50. Replacing standard lampshades with something that is more eye-catching will immediately dress up your room.
Textures & Fabrics
By adding gorgeous accessories like cushions to your room can make such a difference to the look and feel. They can also create a pop of colour to brighten up a dull room. They don’t even have to be in-keeping with the rest of your room, sometimes it’s nice to have something completely different to jazz up your room.
Furniture
If your furniture is looking a bit dated, treat yourself to something new. It doesn’t have to be expensive to look good either. As an example, Divan Beds Centre has a rich choice of affordable beds for you to check out.
Mirrors
If you add large mirrors to your wall this will open it up. Decorators and interior designers promise that if you put a mirror opposite the room’s entrance, it will give that feel that it is bigger. Get one with a metal frame as well, for that more expensive look.
When In Doubt, Go White
The colour white makes a room feel clean. It attracts natural light and can be the perfect place to hang a colourful painting or put a particular chair in front of, therefore making it a focal point of your room.
Minimise
No space will look expensive if it is overcrowded and messy. Stay on top of the cleaning and dust, whilst minimising your clutter. It might sound like hard work to begin with. but once you get into the swing of it, it will no longer fill like a chore.
Paying attention to textiles, vintage styles and architectural interest when formulating a plan for the room; Swoonworthy’s blog might act as a last source of inspiration on how to make your home look a million dollars.
