Don’t let money get you down about fun events. You can still have just as much fun as everyone else this Halloween… on a budget! From days out over the Halloween season to decoration I have you covered-

Free Halloween Themed Days Out

Let’s kick it off with days out, did you know that in your local area there will be many free things to do. Check to see if your local pub is doing a free Halloween event that your children could attend. You might even find your local town council put on a free pumpkin trail for children to find.

Halloween At Home

You don’t just have to go out and about though, there are many activities you can do from home! Lots of websites offer free printable activities for you to make and do at home!

Some other activities you can do are mix shaving foam and corn flour together to make gloop. If you have orange or red food colouring you can make it like blood or the insides of a pumpkin. This is amazing for sensory play with younger children or older children!

If you get the chance to pick up a pumpkin, do some pumpkin carving at home with the kids. The perfect simple Halloween activity that won’t cost you the earth! You can carve, paint or decorate your pumpkin with anything you have at home from toilet paper to craft supplies!

Homemade Halloween Decorations

When it comes to ideas on how to decorate for Halloween on a budget, there are many things you can do to make it a fun occasion.

Whether you’re looking to make homemade halloween outdoor decorations, or to dress up your home inside, decorations can be easy to make yourself, no matter how crafty you are. I’m sure you have plenty of cardboard or tins lying around that you recycle? You could make tin can spiders, toilet paper bats. You could even make glowing ghosts from your milk cartons with some lights inside (like Christmas string lights).

So how do you make these you may wonder? Well if you have pipe cleaners or cardboard you can stick those to the tin cans to make your tin can spiders. If you have some card lying around whether it be craft card, or simply an old birthday card (or even another toilet paper roll) you can cut out some bat wings to stick on a toilet paper roll to make your toilet roll bats, with a bit of paint or colouring in with a felt pen you have the perfect bat!

Milk carton glowing ghosts are one of my favourites and these can be made with jars or milk cartons! Milk cartons make it easier due to the white colour carton you just need a pen to draw a face on your carton and then put some lights inside to glow up your ghost. With jars you could make ghosts or a mummy with cotton wool or toilet paper stuck on your jar and a face drew on with again some lights inside.

What To Do About Trick Or Treaters

Worried about what you’ll do about treats for trick or treaters? Instead of buying lots of expensive sweets, you could get baking and make some homemade Halloween food. Perhaps some Halloween biscuits, or pumpkin cupcakes. You could simply give some things you already have in your cupboards – such as raisins, crisps, chocolate, fruit chews, fruit rolls etc.

Costumes For Halloween Homemade

Onto homemade easy Halloween costumes because we all love to dress up! Did you know this is super easy and simple to do on a budget, from using bin bags to using old clothing. Perhaps you could just get yourself some Halloween contact lenses and use what you have around that to make a fantastic outfit.

Homemade quick Halloween costumes could include – simply putting on a white sheet, or bin bag as a ghost. Or perhaps a black bin bag as a bat, a black cat, or even the grim reaper.

Ideas for homemade Halloween family costumes include…

• A family of zombies
• Superheroes
• Your favourite cartoon characters
• Ghosts

Have an old school shirt and trousers? Did you know these can make the perfect homemade zombie Halloween costumes. With a bit of fake blood (or ketchup) and a bit of make up on your face you’re just as convincing as a shop bought costume. Only people will love it so much more for the thought and effort that is put into a homemade outfit.

Another popular one for this year is Chucky and again, this can be done using clothes from home. All you need to do is get is a striped long sleeved top and denim dungarees. Then touch up the outfit with some make up. You can fix the hair by simply using some hairspray or gel to spike it up. Then maybe get some orange hair spray to really look the part.
