Now that the gym’s are fully open again here in the UK, it’s time to start making the most of your gym membership. Make it work as hard as it can to give you the maximum benefits. We all work hard for our money so what we spend it on should be as beneficial to us as possible. It’s all about getting the best deal you can. Plus, we all love a freebie – right! Whether you’ve joined a gym to lose weight, get toned, or to meet new likeminded people.
Use The Showers
This is something i’ve only just started making the most out of at my current gym. It was when our recent water bill came through – £11 more expensive every month! This was what gave me the kick up the bum to start showering at the gym whenever i could. I go to the gym around 5 times a week and get VERY sweaty so need a full on shower and hair wash after most sessions. This can get very expensive very quickly!
Most gyms will have decent showers available to their members, and a changing area with lockers that you can use. OK, so it won’t be as good as having a shower at home but think of all that money you’ll save on your water bill by doing so.
Take A Friend For Free If You Can
Some gyms will allow you to take a friend (non-member) with you on one of your trips to the gym. Not all gyms offer this, but if your gym does you should make the most of it. For example, Pure Gym allows their premium members to take a friend up to 4 times a month. That’s 4 free sessions for your friend, and a gym buddy for you! Plus, if that friend ends up joining, you may well get a slight discount through the refer a friend scheme.
Fill Up On Their Water
This might sound a bit odd because water is free right – NOPE! Especially these days when energy bills, water bills, bills just to breath, are going up. It might not even seem like that much but by filing your water bottle up before you leave, you’re saving yourself a few pennies. Plus, these pennies will add up over time. And as a certain supermarket ays – every little helps!
Join Their Free Classes
If your gym offers free classes with their trainers, use them! If it’s being offered in your gym membership, technically you are paying for them – in a way! Plus, classes are a great way to meet other like-minded people. So, if you’re looking for a new gym buddy, or perhaps you’re new to the area, it’s a great way to make friends. However, if you’re not really interested in making friends, you could just go to learn a few new exercises. Or even just to mix up your routine a little. Add a sprinkling of a spin class, a legs, bums and tums class, or even that HIIT class you’ve been avoiding! You might learn a lot from their personal trainers.
Use The Free PT Taster Session
A lot of the gyms will regularly offer their members a free personal training taster session with one of their resident PT’s. You may not be looking for a personal trainer, however, you should take advantage of this free offer when you can. You might get to learn something new to add to your exercise routine. They could show you how a new piece of equipment works. Give you tips on how to better your training. They may even be able to work on technique with you. Yes, it might only be a 30 minute session, however make the most of it and ask LOTS of questions!
Check Out Their Member Benefits
Many gyms these days will collaborate with certain brands to be able to give their members an even better experience. For example, my local Pure Gym offers their members discounts on products from a variety of brands. Such as 35% off at Reebok, 15% off The Fragrance Shop, 55% off I Saw It First, 25% off Muscle Food…etc.
Of course, don’t just go buying things just because you can get them at a discounted price. However, if you’re in the market for some new Reebok trainers, then definitely use their benefits to get a discount.
How do you make the most of of your gym membership? Do you prefer going to the gym instead of working out at home?
