Volkswagen T-Cross
The VW T-Cross is the smallest Volkswagen SUV but it’s also one of the best, because it’s such good value. It has the quality you expect of a larger VW model but at a scaled-down price. It looks more distinctive than other VW models too, so it stands out.
The interior is well made and there are useful features such as the sliding bench seat in the back that allows extra room for passengers – even adults can get comfy in the rear seats. It’s not the most exciting to drive, but it’s comfortable and the quiet engines mean it’s a great cruiser.
Skoda Kamiq
The Skoda Kamiq is a similar size to the VW T-Cross and also features clever sliding seats for added practicality. It has a huge boot as well, so even though it’s technically a small SUV, there’s no shortage of luggage or passenger space.

Mazda CX-30
If you want a small SUV that’s good to drive, the Mazda CX-30 is the best option there is. It’s equipped with a sublime manual gearbox, sweet steering, revvy engines and a perfect driving position, so it’s a joy to drive.
It looks smart and has one of the best interiors of any cars in its class, plus a smartly designed infotainment system that doesn’t rely on a frustrating touchscreen display. Okay, it’s not as quick nor as practical as some other small SUVs but it’s a smart left-field choice anyway.
