Backpacking, or a travelling on the road is a great choice for anyone that wants to explore on their own. Without being dragged down by touristy attractions, or by departure times/days. Travelling on the road means you can be your own boss.
A Unique Bonding Experience
It’s just you, your crew and the vehicle that you’ve picked. There are no other tourists to bother you, no overzealous tour guide that wants to grab your money and no hawkers looking to rip you off with local services. It’s a fantastic bonding experience if you can convince some people to go with you.
Being all alone in the great outdoors with nothing but a map and a full tank of gas makes you feel more in tune with nature again. You’ll get to explore together, make some wonderful memories and disconnect from the stress of your regular life.
A Cheaper Holiday
Once you hire a motorhome, there’s very little you need to invest in to make the perfect road trip. For starters, you’ll save a lot on accommodation because motels are relatively cheap and easy to find when you’re travelling, and you always have the option of camping out or just sleeping in your vehicle.
You won’t need to pay for plane tickets because you’ll just be driving in whatever direction you want, and buying your own supplies and food is far cheaper than eating at a fancy overpriced restaurant. If you’re looking for a budget holiday for your friends and family, then a road trip is the answer you’ve been looking for.
Be Spontaneous
You can’t really be spontaneous when you’re on holiday to a faraway location. You probably don’t know the language, you can’t exactly use your phone’s GPS without incurring expensive fees and you might even be held by the hand of your tour guide. A road trip beats these problems with little effort. You can go on whatever detours you want, you don’t need a set plan of where you want to go and you can walk and scale any terrain you see. It’s a free adventure that has no limitations but your imagination.
Next time you have a gap year or your employer reminds you that you’ve got several days of holiday left over for the year, treat yourself to an experience that doesn’t involve planes and tourist traps—pick a road trip instead. Travelling doesn’t have to cost the earth!
