Fed up with having foggy goggles? Here are some great tips on how to defog your goggles.
Although many swimming goggles come with anti-fog lenses, they always seem to end up going foggy anyway! Some say the anti-fog layer won’t fade – this isn’t true! Ignore whether it says this or not. All goggles will loose this anti-fog coating within about 2 or 3 weeks. So you’re better off with the mindset they WILL fog up at some point.

I have to say it’s one of the most annoying things in the world to have your goggles constantly fogging up while swimming. It means you need to stop every few laps to de-fog them, which interrupts your sessions. It can also make you loose focus and have a very stop start session. However, there are many ways you can reduce the amount of fog that builds up. I’ve tried and tested them all myself and here are the best ones.
Spitting
Yep, that’s right, one of the best, and cheapest tips on how to defog your goggles is to spit into each lens and rub it around on the lense. It’s not ideal as you will have to keep doing this every so often while you swim, but it’s much easier to do as you have a constant supply right there with you.
It’s also not particularly hygienic, so definitely don’t do it if you’re borrowing someone else’s goggles! Personally, i have been doing this for maybe 20 years or more and found it works well. The only down side is it doesn’t last all that long before needing to re-apply.
Zoggs Fogbuster Lens Cleaner
This product does work quite well but it is very expensive for what it is. For a 10ml bottle it’s about £6 with is expensive really and you will use it up quickly if you train a lot. It is easy and quicker to use than some other options though as all you do is spray into each lens before you swim so if you have the money and don’t mind repurchasing a lot, give it a go and see what you think.

Jaws Quick Spit Anti Fog Spray
Another proper product for de-fogging goggles is the Jaws Quick Spit Anti Fog Spray which is the best spray I have found for keeping fog at bay. However, at £9.46 for the 30ml bottle it is the most expensive option and there are better, cheaper options available to you that I honestly think work better and for longer periods of time.

Baby Shampoo
This is my all time favourite way to avoid your goggles from fogging up and lasts the longest time. I can easily go training for an hour or so and it will be fine for the entire time. It’s also a really cheap way to anti-fog your goggles as you need the smallest amount each time and a large bottle could last you for years!
All you have to do is completely dry your goggles inside and out. The put a small amount (I’m talking pea size) on the tip of your finger and rub between two fingers. Then rub that finger on the inside of your goggles lenses making sure you cover all of it, even up the sides of the lenses. Then when you get into the pool, very gently swim your goggles in the pool water to get off any excess shampoo.
You want to keep enough on there to stop them from fogging up but you don’t want excess floating around bubbling up while you swim. That’s it, it’s that simple and it really works! Give it a go and see what you think.
