Creative Ways to Re-Use Your Wedding Flowers

Fresh flowers create an unbeatable ambiance on a special occasion, especially at your wedding! And with wedding flowers accounting for around 10% of a wedding budget, they’re a significant part of many people’s big day.

From a blooming wedding flower bouquet, to show-stopping centre pieces. One thing you certainly won’t be short of when your big day ends is flowers. Whilst they serve as an apt reminder of your beautiful day, sadly, they don’t stay beautiful for long. When so much time has been spent planning the perfect wedding and choosing every detail with care. It’s natural to want to preserve as much as possible from the day and not let anything go to waste.

That’s why we’ve put together these top tips on how you can re-use, repurpose and get creative with those beautiful blooms. So you have yet another way to treasure those memories. Plus, making your wedding that little bit greener in the process.

Re-Gifting

It’s customary to give flowers to the mothers of the happy couple. So consider giving your flowers as gifts to key members of the wedding party. To enjoy for a few days after the day itself. Alternatively, you can donate them to local charities or nursing homes.

Not only does this allow more people to appreciate them. It’s also a lovely way to bring a smile to a stranger’s face. Do contact the respective places you’d like to donate to first before dropping them off. Just to make sure it’s something they’re comfortable accepting.

Getting Creative

By setting the flowers in a mould with some epoxy resin, they’ll be able to last a lifetime. Depending on the mould and shape you choose, your flowers can be incorporated into a wide range of gift ideas. From photo frames to paper weights, you can gift your creations to loved ones or create little mementos for yourself.

That way you’ll always have that extra special reminder plucked straight from your wedding day – alongside that beautiful wedding ring of course!

Dry Them 

Taking inspiration from an 80s classic, you can dry the petals to make potpourri and place them in a decorative bowl for a classy, fragrant addition to your home as newlyweds.  If you’d prefer to recycle the flowers, you could easily use the dried petals as confetti for another occasion. 

Or, you can also dry the flowers intact by hanging them upside down for a few weeks. After this time, you can place them in a vase for a stunning dried flower arrangement which will last for at least a year (when the drying is done correctly).

If you’re not confident in drying the petals or flowers yourself, you can contact a local preserver who can freeze or press the flowers for you. Freezing the flowers in a standard freezer at home will destroy the flowers, whereas a professional will be able to fully remove the moisture and preserve them properly. You can then put these on display, such as putting them on the wall in ornate frames or collating them in an album or scrapbook with pictures from your wedding day.

Any of these options guarantee that your wedding flower bouquet will have purpose once again. Reduce waste and of course, be appreciated beyond the wedding day itself.
