Whether you’re looking to hop over to France or Spain, or somewhere a little more further a field, here are a few of the best summer destinations in Europe to add to your bucket list.
Ibiza – The Clubbing Capital
Ibiza might be known as the clubbing capital of the world, but there’s far more to this Spanish island than meets the eye. True, if you enjoy partying, then Ibiza is a haven. Visit Dalt Villa and spend a day discovering the oldest region of Ibiza. Its stunning architecture is especially worth a visit if you believe in the supernatural. The south-eastern coast is famed for its mystical energy and many people have claimed to have seen UFOs there.
Zante – Zakynthos
Better known by its Italian name Zante, Zakynthos is a stunning island just off the coast of Greece. Incredibly popular with tourists due to its miles of golden sands and crystal-clear waters. Zakynthos is perfect for both sun loungers and fans of extreme water sports. Just imagine spending your afternoon scuba diving alongside some of the island’s native sea turtles.
Yet, unlike some other beach resorts, there is far more to Zakynthos than just a pretty shore. This island has regions of lush, forested wilderness and plenty of traditional and rural Greek villages that are wonderful to explore and dine in. Indeed, one of the best ways to explore Zakynthos is to simply rent a car and explore the island.
The Azores – The Hidden Paradise

Known as Europe’s answer to Hawaii due to its volcanic roots. The Azores benefits from warm hot springs, perfect for an afternoon dip. As well as a mountainous landscape that’s ideal for anyone who enjoys a hiking adventure. Just keep in mind that the weather here is highly unpredictable with storms and glorious sunshine occurring in the same day commonplace.
Santorini – Honeymoon Paradise
Known as the honeymooner’s paradise due to its picturesque and romantic views, Santorini is one of the most unique islands in Europe. Situated in Greece, Santorini has a dramatic landscape that has been carved by volcanoes over the years meaning there are plenty of stunning hikes to enjoy on your holiday.
Be sure to take the 9km trail between Fira and Oia, enjoying the stunning views of the sunset while in Oia. To make your vacation truly memorable, be sure to stay in one of the traditional white-washed houses that Greece is famed for as well as exploring the unusual black and red sand beaches that make this island such a unique destination.
Menorca – The Idyllic Island
You’ll be hard pushed to find a more idyllic island than Menorca, surrounded by turquoise waters and sand that glistens in the sweltering sun. Located just off Spain, Menorca becomes incredibly popular in summer when the island’s weather is at its most scorching.
However, off season in spring and autumn is still warm enough to sit outside, so consider these months if you want to avoid the crowds. A visit to Menorca should be spent on the beach and in the water; may this be swimming, sailing or kayaking, the waters here are too beautiful not to enjoy. Then spend your evenings having a leisurely stroll through towns such as Ciutadella and Mahón before indulging on platters of locally caught seafood.
