Nature is a wonderful thing. It’s full of amazing creatures and plants which have been used by doctors for thousands of years. Nature is the ultimate resource we must look to when we want to stay fit and healthy. Sticking to a holistic approach, whether through a naturopath or Gp, and consuming fewer chemicals will help take care of our bodies. Here are some of the ways you can stay healthy with the help of nature every single day.
Drink Water
The number one spot on every single healthy living post you have ever read is drinking water. Water is our lifeblood. To stay functioning at full capacity we must make sure we drink enough water every single day. You ideally want to drink approx 2 litres of water a day for optimum body function.
Avoid Hydrogenated Oil
When you’re shopping, check the back of the labels on oil to make sure they’re not hydrogenated. Then work to look for foods which contain oil to eliminate this type of oil from your diet altogether.
Never Buy Palm Oil
Many of our favourite products such as Nutella contain a substance called palm oil. Palm oil is extracted to such extremes that some bears in the region are becoming endangered. It is not natural, not humane and we shouldn’t buy into this cruelty. Plus there are so many alternatives so there is absolutely no need to be using this type of oil whatsoever! There was a big thing about Doritos using palm oil in their crisps until a huge petition against the company made them change to a different type of oil. Maybe the same should be done with Nutella?!
Buy Better Eggs
Make sure you avoid buying battery raised eggs (yes, some supermarkets do still sell them). Not only are they less nutritionally dense and much smaller, they come from chickens who’ve been kept in a dark room all their lives. Thousands of chickens all squashed together for the whole of their lives. Why would you want to eat from depressed chickens? Plus, by buying eggs from battery chickens, you are essentially saying it’s ok to do that.
Eat Fresh Produce
The most natural and healthy food you can physically have in your diet is fruit and vegetables. Of course, most of us might struggle eating much of the latter but if you take the time to prepare vegetables right, they will taste amazing. When you create a meal try to bulk out 50% of the plate with veggies and then half and half of meat and carbs. This can be potato, bread, pasta, rice or any other sort of carbohydrate source.
Go Organic
Organic fruit and vegetables, as well as meat, are raised in an environment where pesticides are NEVER used. This means that there is no chance of you ingesting second hand pesticides from your apple or broccoli. Make sure to find the best quality food from brands such as clearspring you can for your body.
Eat Fish Twice A Week
One of the best things you can do for your body is to incorporate more seafood into your diet. Seafood, especially oily fish like salmon, is full of omega 3 and 6, which our body struggles to produce on its own. These oils are essential for our body and they can greatly improve brain function too. So aim to eat some sort of seafood twice a week if you can. This will make your body very grateful!
Eat Natural Salt
The common table salt you see at the store is white for a reason: it isn’t completely natural. Table salt is processed in a factory and it is also bleached so that it appears perfectly white, the issue with this is that you lose some of the nutrients it provides. Stick to Himalayan salt or pink salt to keep you healthy.
Stop Drinking Soda
Even though a refreshing glass of Coca Cola might be exactly what you need at the end of the day, it can be dangerous for you body due to the high acidity and low nutrition. This drink has only sugars and carbon dioxide to offer, which is extremely acidic and can be damaging to your gut. Not the mention the fact that the sugar can rot your teeth and make you put on more weight. Instead, opt for a glass of water instead to keep you healthy and hydrated.
Get Moving
Exercise isn’t everyone’s favourite activity, although I’m not sure why as it makes you feel alive and energised, I hate not doing some kind of exercise every day. However it is essential for our bodies because it helps out muscles to stay strong and also allows our heart to beat strong and burn more fat. If you are just starting out with exercise, try and get up for a walk for 20 minute every single day. It will make a huge difference to your body and your health overall.
Skincare
Change up your skincare routine to something which is a little more natural for you body. By using more natural products you will avoid damaging you skin and hair with harsh chemicals.
Medicine
Natural medicine is a core belief when treating yourself holistically. Whether it be CBD Oil, herbal extracts or even the food you eat: sourcing your cure from the environment is the best way to stay healthy without polluting your body with rubbish.
Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is crucial for our health and we need to make sure we get enough sleep every single night of the week. Try to aim for 8 hours of sleep in a pitch black room for the best results. This will mean your eyes aren’t disturbed by the light and your body has the proper chance to perform repairs and get everything back in working order before the morning. Your brain never truly rests, but a deep sleep is enough to give it that boost ready for the next day.
Get Outside
Nature is great for the body and also great for the soul. If you have been cooped up in the office all week, take your chance this weekend to stand out in the open and breathe in some fresh air. It will make your body happy and also allow you to relax more. A walk in the fresh air is something which cannot be compared.
