Drinking enough water each day has always been something i’ve struggled with. I would rarely ever get the feeling of being thirsty so could go hours without having a drop to drink. It would take the onset of a headache or a foggy feeling in my brain for me to realise i hadn’t drunk enough. No matter what i did, nothing seemed to stick. I tried having a water bottle with me at all times. However, i would forget i had it and almost ignore it. I tried having an alert on my phone. That got so annoying, i’d leave my phone somewhere i couldn’t hear it. Then i heard someone say the more you drink, the more you crave water. So, i drank a gallon of water every day for 30 days to see what might happen.
Day One
I found day one was pretty hard. One gallon of water is a lot to drink. Especially when you’re used to drinking maybe 1.5 litres a day (if that). I thought filling up a gallon bottle of water first thing in the morning would be the best way to do it. Either decanting it out throughout the day in to a smaller bottle. Or, drinking from the large bottle. This seemed the best way to know how much i had drunk. Also, to know how much left i had to go each day. Looking at a gallon of water in the morning is pretty daunting. However, knowing how much i had left to go pushed me to drink more.
The first thing i noticed was how much i was peeing all day! Obviously my body wasn’t used to having that much water in it so often. However, i have been told as my body gets more used to it, it will start retaining more water. Hopefully this works as peeing every 5 minutes gets annoying fast!
Other than that, day one didn’t really feel much different. I don’t feel more energetic and it certainly hasn’t curbed my hunger cravings. So, we shall see what tomorrow brings!
Day Two
OK, so being totally honest, i missed the gallon by 500 mls last night. I physically couldn’t fit any more water in me without bursting!
I was surprised by how much i wasn’t peeing throughout the day. Does this mean i was super dehydrated before or that i’m now just bloated AF and carrying all the water with me?! So far not really feeling any different but it’s only been one whole day so will report back again after the first week is completed!
Week One
I figured doing a day by day report would make this the longest blog post EVER! Plus, probably the most boring as well. I mean how many times can you tell people about your urinating habits before it gets old?!
After the first few days of peeing a bit more, mainly first thing in the morning, or needing to get up during the night, i went back to my normal peeing habits. I was quite surprised at how much i didn’t need to pee. Did this mean i was majorly dehydrated before?!
I had read from other people who had done this that you start to feel different after the first week. Having a clearer head, feeling fresher, more energetic. However, i didn’t feel any of these things. I felt more bloated from having so much water in my body but that was it. It was kind of disappointing to be honest. I was hoping i would feel more alive and energetic. It was a little disheartening and for a few days thought about stopping if i wasn’t going to get anything from it. However, i didn’t, i carried on as i wanted to see it through to the end.
Week Two
Week two has actually been a lot harder than i thought it would be. I figured the more i drank each day, the easier it would be to keep drinking the extra water. However, i really struggled this week. In fact, most days i either only just, or didn’t even manage to drink the entire gallon. I know, only 2 weeks in and i’m failing already!
Obviously i will keep going and i do try to get the full gallon in each day but feeling bloated all the time is becoming really old! I think my plan of action for week three is to start earlier in the day. Perhaps i’m just leaving too much to drink in the evenings – hence the ultimate bloat!
One thing i have noticed is my skin was breaking out more this week. Perhaps it’s the extra fluids washing out all the toxins in my body? I haven’t done anything else differently so i guess that’s what it must be?! I will keep you updated on this to see if it gets better or worse as we go in to next week. Really hoping it’s a short term thing though. I thought my skin break out days were left firmly at school!
Week Three
No, drinking a gallon of water every day does NOT get any easier. At least, not for me it hasn’t. I still feel bloated every day from drinking so much water. Most days i have struggled to even get that much water in me, even 3 weeks in to the challenge. Many people says it gets easier the more you do it but that’s just not the case for me.
I even noticed i’m getting headaches more often. I don’t know whether this is down to my body just not wanting that much water in it. Or, if it’s because my body is now craving more liquid as it’s getting used to having more. Either way, i haven’t enjoyed the challenge so far and can’t wait for it to end!
I honestly thought this would be a great challenge and that i would feel better for drinking more. Maybe some people just aren’t meant to drink that much?! Maybe i’m just being a total wuss!
Anyway, i’m on the last week of the challenge now so i’m going to put in 100% and see what happens. You never know, a miracle might happen!
Week Four
Going in to this challenge, i honestly thought it would help me drink more water and would make me feel better for doing so. However, i really struggled from about half way through the first week. The thought of having to drink that much every day was really overwhelming and it kind of put me off a bit. I tried my hardest most days to finish off the gallon but i rarely managed to do so. I’d feel bloated ALL the time and would often get headaches. The more i tried to force my body to drink, the more my body seemed to reject it.
Conclusion
In conclusion, i’m glad i gave it a go but i’m also so glad it’s done with now and i can go back to drinking normal amounts. I will make an effort to drink more but not a gallon every day! Maybe some people just aren’t meant to drink that much liquid on a daily basis.
I drank a gallon of water every day for 30 days! How do you think you’d feel if you drank a gallon of water a day?
