I can’t quite believe it’s been a month already since I started doing the 100 Mile Great Cholesterol Challenge as part of the Heart Charity Campaign. To spread awareness of ways in which you can lower cholesterol. To be totally honest, I thought this was going to be a pain to try and fit into my already hectic day to day life. However, I was completely wrong! It was the complete opposite, I didn’t find it hard at all. In fact I really enjoyed having a goal to work to each week.
I’ve always loved swimming and going for walks in the countryside so I just did those a little more than I’d been doing before. I’d grab my camera and walking boots and go for a stomp around the fields. Taking photos as i went. It didn’t feel like extra exercise or work at all as I was doing something I love to do.
Step Counters
Very kindly, I was gifted a Fitbit Charge2 towards the beginning of October which I found incredibly helpful. It helped me track my steps while doing the walking section of my 100 mile goal. I loved that it was so easy to set up and use and it was uncomfortable to wear. Plus, it’s a great help when trying to keep track of your steps each day. On average, people will tend to do approx 1,000 steps every 10 minutes.
Here are a few of the photos I took whilst out wondering about in the countryside…
As for the swimming side of things, I was going 4 times a week. Doing approx 115 – 120 lengths in the pool which works out at just under 2 miles. So that in itself was already almost 8 miles a week.
Swimming is my place to go when I feel stressed or anxious. Or just want to clear my mind. So not only is swimming great for me in terms of exercise. It also allows my brain to switch off for a while as well, so much needed brain downtime. What form of exercise do you find helps you to zone out and relax?
Would I Do It Again?
I would definitely do this again next year. I really liked how it gave me a set goal to work towards each week. It also gave me an excuse to go out and get some fresh air and to walk about in the countryside. Something I love to do but always put off because i’m too busy.
However, no one is too busy to do anything. You choose what makes you ‘busy’ in life. So instead of putting what you love on the back burner, make time for what you love and do it now! You don’t want to get to the end of your life and have regrets and look back thinking I wish I had….
