No, it really isn’t necessary to have more than one blog. So, why did I decide to start up a second blog? This lifestyle blog is my main blogging platform. It’s been going the longest and gives me my main income. However, I decided I wanted to start up another one that was specifically focused on fitness – fitnessfocus.online.
Your Niche
This lifestyle blog has a very open niche which covers pretty much all topics. Great for attracting people interested in a lot of different area. However, although this is a good thing in one way, it’s also not great for those wanting to know more about a specific topic.
Health and fitness has been such a huge part of my life for such a long time. I actually can’t remember a time when I wasn’t competing in some way – swimming, sailing, running, triathlons…etc. I also recently became a qualified personal trainer too so it really is part of me. So, I decided I wanted to try to help others by talking about some of the things I have learnt along the way. Things I wish I had done differently, or just to share my journey into fitness.
I mean, yes, I could have just written about these things on this blog and yes, it would have been easier but I wanted it to be a separate venture from this one. A specific place for people to go wanting to seek advise on their health and fitness journey. I would have loved a place like this to go when I was just starting out.

Starting a new blog is VERY time consuming and takes a lot of effort, especially in the beginning. No ones knows the blog exists so you have to get it out there as much as possible. As it’s brand new, you won’t be featured or rank highly (if at all), on any search engines. You have to do all the leg work to get people to read your articles.
Passion
If you don’t have the time, or passion, don’t do it! It’s very time consuming and it can be draining! It isn’t a blog I ever imagine becoming an income for me, that’s not the intention. I just wanted to create a space for people to go to for advise.
Website Hosting
This lifestyle blog was created using a website builder platform, which takes a lot of maintaining. You have to do everything yourself from the ground up. Whereas the new fitness blog was created using WordPress which does a lot of the work for you. If I had my time again, I definitely wouldn’t choose a website builder platform again. Not only is it more time consuming, it also costs a lot more as well. (Since writing this, i have actually moved this blog to WordPress as well).
In A Nutshell
My aim is to keep both blogs going on a full time basis (when the fitness one has found it’s feet). This one won’t be going anywhere, although I might give it a good sorting out when I get the time as it would be great to have it a little more niche specific than it currently is.
So in a nutshell, if you have the time and passion for another blog then go for it. However, if you don’t, I really wouldn’t bother. I’ve seen so many other bloggers think that by creating another blog it will mean another income. Then a few months down the line it has crashed and burned as they didn’t have the drive behind it to make it work alongside their main blog. It can take such a long time for a blog to make any kind of income. So don’t go into it thinking you could leave your job and be a full time blogger within a matter of days, months…or even years some times!
