Christmas is all about family and making traditions. However, it doesn’t need to follow the stereotypical Christmas traditions everyone else does. Instead, make your own. Making your own traditions is how you reclaim the festive holiday.
Traditions can be anything that you and your family love to do. Something that becomes a magical element to your Christmas. Whether it’s making your own Christmas decorations or baking your favourite Christmas cookies. Here are five great traditions for you to try out this year…
Christmas Morning
One thing we love to do in our house on Christmas morning is to open our stockings together. Yes, we aren’t kids anymore but it’s so much fun to have a stocking again! I remember jumping on my parents bed at 5am Christmas morning so excited that Santa had been ( I was about 6 at the time).
Excitedly opening the presents and showing them to my parents (who had of course bought them for me) and brothers. So, a few years ago my husband and I thought it would be fun to give each other a stocking, Everything under £5, so it’s all good childish fun.
Matching Outfits
Another idea for making Christmas morning more fun could be to get everyone in matching pyjamas, slippers…the works! This doesn’t have to be expensive, places like Primark have really affordable options. Plus, they have matching sets for everyone. How great would it be to look back at photos in years to come of you all looking a bit goofy in matching Christmas clobber!

Your Christmas Outfit
Most people like to stick to a funky Christmas jumper to wear on the last week of work. How fun would it be to start a tradition, maybe with some of your colleagues of friends to wear something a bit more extravagant?! How about wearing a fun, yet still kinda formal, and affordable, Christmas Suit?
Definitely a bit more classy than the normal Christmas jumper yet still fun. You can get Christmas suits from pretty much anywhere online these days. Just Google – Christmas Suits and see what comes up.
“Geared towards helping you make new memories, crazy memories, festive memories with friends and family, all while dressed to impress in an ugly Christmas suit.”
Christmas Party
An annual Christmas party can be a great excuse to get all your friends and family together to have a real ‘knees up’ making memories to last a lifetime. Depending on how many of you there are and of course your budget, perhaps you could hire a hall or a barn and make a real night of it. Or, if there are only a few of you and perhaps the budget isn’t quite as big, maybe hire out a section in your local pub and have a Christmas dinner together…with all the trimmings and of course the crackers and silly jokes! It isn’t about how much you spend on an occasion, it’s about making memories with friends.
Whatever tradition you and your family love to do, keep at it. Traditions are special because they are done year after year. They are made even more special when they are unique traditions done by your family. That is because these traditions have stories attached to them. They have stories, and they have history, and they have meaning to you and your loved ones.
