Clever storage solutions can transform your master bedroom by de-cluttering and freeing up floor space. Storage for clothes, bedding, shoes…etc, will make your bedroom look more prominent.
The most significant mistake people make with bedroom storage is taking up the floor space they walk on. Ideally, your storage shouldn’t take up any additional floor space, so your bedroom storage is improved without sacrificing mobility.
This article provides five storage tips for your master bedroom that won’t eat into precious floor space.
Let’s jump in!
Store Everything In An Ottoman Bed
Ottoman beds are the creme de la crème of storage beds because they utilise the entire underside of the mattress base for storage.
Ottomans have a lift-up mattress base on hydraulic struts, which hold the mattress in an upright position like the boot lid of a car. The storage space is unbeatable because it uses the entire width and length of the bed frame.
You can get ottoman beds with a side or end-lift to suit your bedroom, and they come in all standard bed sizes, from single to king-size.
We offer an unbeatable range of fabric and wooden ottoman beds to suit every taste, with prices starting from only £289 for a double.
Not A Fan Of Ottomans?
The next best thing to an ottoman bed is a four-drawer divan bed. Four drawers offer storage space for bedding, seasonal clothes, towels, and shoes, and many people prefer being able to separate things in drawers.
The advantage of drawers over an ottoman is that you do not have to lift the whole mattress to access things, which keeps your bed neat. Drawers are also safer around children since an ottoman base slamming shut is dangerous.
The disadvantage of drawers is that you need space at the side of the bed to open them, which limits the use cases in small bedrooms.

Buy Tall Furniture
When maximising master bedroom floor space, you need to add storage vertically rather than horizontally.
For example, a tall chest of drawers is better than a broad chest of drawers, and a tall wardrobe with drawers is better than having two pieces of furniture when you can kill two birds with one stone.
It also pays to measure the depth of furniture and use a tape measure to determine what is acceptable in your bedroom.
The Back Of Your Door Is Your Friend
Please don’t neglect the back of your door when it comes to storage!
Most of us have a dressing gown hook or an over-door hanger on our bedroom door, but you can go even further with storage pockets and over-door organisers.
Over-door organisers are perfect for bits and bats, and you can get them with pockets large enough for trainers, games, and other items. If you need somewhere for make-up and toiletries, you can even get over-door shelves.
However, ensure your bedroom door opens properly without the over-door storage whacking the wall. Otherwise, it will be an annoyance.
Get Smart With Bedroom Shelves
Shelves are the unspoken saviours of bedroom storage. You can go as wide and deep as you like, add stoppers for games and books, and even wrap them around your bedroom to have consistent storage on every wall.
You also don’t have to bolt shelves onto the wall – if you have plasterboard walls, you can add wall niches that create recessed storage. Add a dim spotlight inside the place, and you have a fancy way to display ornaments and figures.
However, our favourite shelves are tiered corner shelves, which take up very little usable wall space, preserving space for art and wall decorations.
