A new season is on the horizon and the excitement is palpable. Spring always brings a sense of relief after the long winter months, but this year, it seems as though everyone is even more excited and relieved to see blue skies and longer, lighter days. With the arrival of spring and the promise of social activities and more freedom to venture out, what better excuse to treat yourself to some new purchases? If you’re a fan of fashion, here are five ways to update your look and conform to current fashion trends.
Create A Versatile Capsule Wardrobe
The first step to making putting outfits together easy and effortless is creating a capsule wardrobe. The primary aim of a capsule wardrobe is to form a foundation, which you can build on throughout the year to channel new trends and freshen up your look. To start, you need to invest in some high-quality, well-fitted basics. If you’re putting together a wardrobe for casual wear and nights out, for example, you could buy a pair of slim-fit jeans, a slightly baggier pair of jeans, some chinos or tailored trousers, a couple of shirts, a blazer, a mac, a heavy-duty coat like a men’s Moncler puffer jacket and some plain sweaters and tees.
Once you’ve got this skeleton collection, you can mix and match items to create an array of outfits and add seasonal pieces to cater to the conditions, embrace new trends and switch up your favourite ensembles. Take a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, for example. In the cooler months, you can add trainers, a sweater or hoodie, a bobble hat and your winter coat for a walk or a catch up over a coffee. For a spring/summer take, you can keep the jeans and tee and add pumps or espadrilles, a mac if showers are forecast or an oversized chuck-on shirt if it’s warm and dry.
As the seasons change, look out for styles you love and add statement pieces to your capsule collection. This could include anything from a printed bomber jacket or an investment coat to a pair of coloured trainers or patterned, utility or striped shirts to channel retro, military or nautical trends.
Update Your Look For Spring Summer With New Fashion Trends
Many of us are set in our ways when it comes to shopping for clothes, buying items and putting looks together. The beauty of fashion is that it gives you the freedom to express yourself and have a lot of fun with clothes and accessories. If you tend to err on the side of caution, or you wear the same kinds of clothes all the time, why not try and be a little more open-minded this spring? Experiment with new trends and have the confidence to get out of your lane and try new things. We often assume that we can’t pull certain colours or prints off, or that we won’t suit a certain type of look or fit of trouser, but often we make decisions based on our own thoughts, rather than real-life experiences.
Fashion trends come and go, and at any given time, there’s an array of different looks to try. Always remember that you don’t have to go all-out and embrace every catwalk look. You can mix and match elements of new trends and you can swerve those that you don’t like. For spring/summer 2021, the hottest trends for men include nautical, modern utility, bomber jackets, wide-leg trousers, oversized trench coats and bold printed shorts.
Look For Inspiration In Fashion Trends
Some people have a natural flair for fashion. However, for others, shopping and creating ensembles is more challenging. If you find it hard to shop, you’re not sure what suits you, or you don’t know how to put different pieces together, it’s always beneficial to look for inspiration.
From magazines and catwalk shows. To social media feeds and celebrity events. You can gather ideas from people whose style you admire. Take inspiration from how they dress. What they wear and how they celebrate their personal style. Combine ideas you generate from other sources with your own creativity to create looks that complement your individual style.
When you go shopping, you browse websites or you scroll through social feeds, always remember that fashion is subjective. You don’t have to buy clothing just because it’s on-trend. Stick to trends that make you feel fantastic.
Accessorise
One of the best ways to update your look without breaking the bank is to use accessories. Accessories are details that can transform an outfit in an instant. They help you to create unique looks even if you’re wearing basic, simple pieces of clothing. As you move through the seasons, you can utilise finishing touches to weatherproof your outfits and add interest. From beanies, jewellery, belts and scarves to sunglasses, bags and ties. You can dress essentials up or down. Keep warm or stay cool and add style points simply by swapping the accessories you wear.
In spring/summer, add accessories such as shades, hats, bags, jewellery and belts to your collection.
Change Your Colour Palette
Introducing new colours into your wardrobe is a brilliant way to celebrate the arrival of warmer climes. In the autumn and winter, we tend to gravitate towards darker colours like grey, burgundy, black and navy. When the days get brighter, you can afford to be a little bolder and to have more fun with fashion. In the spring, pastels and crisp neutrals are a perfect choice.
As we move into summer, you can experiment with brighter tones and playful patterns and prints. Take a pair of slim-fit jeans and a plain white tee again. For a spring lunch date, add a pair of pumps and a camel or navy mac. For a summer picnic, roll the jeans up slightly to expose the ankles. Swap pumps for flip-flops and throw an oversized denim shirt over as the sun goes down. If it’s hot, you could swap jeans for patterned shorts.
How would you update your look for Spring Summer? For me, this year has been about not buying new clothes, here’s why.
