If you are going to Florida with the kids, then it’s likely you are going to have to go in the school holidays. If you are going in the Easter break at springtime, then this is an ideal time to visit weather wise. Possibly the most magical of all the theme parks and is perfect for children of any age but especially younger kids. Walking down Main Street towards the castle you will be enticed by the sights and smells of delicious sweets from the sweet shops, or the Main Street Bakery. But you might not want to be distracted from getting to the rides or attractions you want to see most!

With infamous rides such as ‘It’s A Small World’, Jungle Cruise, or the Haunted Mansion, there is something for all ages. Don’t miss riding high on Dumbo the flying elephant, or dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table. And of course, you must stay for the most amazing fireworks extravaganza in the evening.
Epcot
At Epcot you can enjoy different foods and attractions from around the world as you wander through the World Showcase, visiting different countries such as China and Morocco and even the UK. Be sure to ride on Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After, some firm favourites with the kids.
Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios is where you will find the amazing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and the new Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride. At Galaxy’s Edge, the children can make their own light sabre or build their own droid and meet their favourite Star Wars characters. Toy Story Land will be a firm favourite with younger kids, where you can eat at Woody’s Lunch Box and go on the Slinky Dog Dash. Just wandering around Hollywood Studios, you will almost feel like you are on the set of a movie!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the place to celebrate all living things. You can go on safari and see lots of exotic animals from giraffes to zebras. Why not go on a safari tour after dark and see what the animals get up at night time? With rides such as Avatar Flight of Passage and DINOSAUR, and shows such as Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!, and A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King, there is something to suit all ages.

The Great Florida Beaches
If you are mainly visiting Disney World whilst in Florida, it is still nice to take a break from the Disney magic and have a relaxing day or two on a beach. Some may think it’s not a holiday without beautiful sandy beaches and palm trees. Florida has plenty of these. The wide, expansive beaches are perfect for an evening cycle or stroll, and the gorgeous turquoise waters are begging to be swam in.
Clearwater Beach
A great family friendly beach is Clearwater Beach, which is accessible from Orlando. Its white sand and clear, shallow water make it an ideal one to visit with younger kids. You can just relax on the beach, book a boat trip to see some dolphins, charter a boat, or try some scuba diving. There really is something for everyone.

Not only is there a great beach, but there are also great shopping and dining options at the Cleveland Street District which overlooks the harbour and marina. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a fantastic place to visit as a family. Sand Key Park is also a stone’s throw away, and offers beach cabanas, a playground, as well as another sandy beach with plenty of parking.
Cocoa Beach
Another great beach to visit is Cocoa Beach. It is so close to the Kennedy Space Centre that if you time it right, you could even see rockets blast off from the beach! You could take an eco-tour adventure on an air boat to try and spot some of Florida’s wildlife – a great thing to do with the kids.
Adventuring Outdoors
More fun Florida family holiday ideas for 2022 include adventuring in their great outdoors. Once you’ve had enough time relaxing on the beach, you may want to be a bit more adventurous and see a bit more of what Florida has to offer outdoors. You could go tubing at Kelly Rock Springs. It’s a fun way to take in some natural sites and wildlife whilst floating peacefully along a river.
You can visit Highlands Hammock State Park to see a rich and varied collection of plant and animal life. It is home to more rare and endemic species than any other Florida state park. You could spot alligators, deer, as well as a variety of birds.
There is so much wildlife to see in Florida, including Florida panthers, black bears, and eagles, so the Everglades National Park is another fantastic place to visit. You can take a guided tour of the park so you’re sure not to miss anything.
The Flamingo Gardens
Another fun day for the family would be a visit to Flamingo Gardens, a 60-acre garden wildlife sanctuary which is home to a variety of exotic birds and beautiful flowers. There are several botanical gardens, and an interactive Children’s Garden, making it a great day out for the whole family.
Kid Friendly Museums
There are some great museums in Florida that are perfect for taking the kids. The Orlando Science Centre is a great place for them to learn about science and technology, with four floors of exhibits for them to explore and get hands on with.
Of course, the Kennedy Space Centre is a great place for any young space enthusiast, and the entire family will be amazed at seeing the space travel artefacts and exhibits. You can even book a lunch with an astronaut!
St Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum
Another fascinating museum for children and the whole family is the St Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum. Here you can see the largest collection of authentic pirate artefacts and discover how pirates sailed on the Florida shore. Children are encouraged to explore the museum while on a treasure hunt, searching for hidden markers on the Discovery Drawers tour. A great, hands-on way for kids to learn about pirates.
The Glazer Children’s Museum
The Glazer Children’s Museum in Tampa is another great destination for a family with younger children. The learning laboratory is a place where children can discover and connect to the world around them. With interactive exhibits such as the Firehouse, Engineer’s Workshop, a Farm, and even an ice cream parlour, children can really explore and play with the world around them.
