Throughout lockdown, i have had so much more time to sit back and relax with a good book. Anything from psychological thrillers to romantic dramas, and pretty much everything in between! Before, life just seemed to fast paced and hectic to be able to sit down, guilt free to read a good book. Now, however, it’s as though we’ve been given the OK to slow down. Be more in the moment. I’ve taken full advantage of this and have been reading pretty much whatever i can get my hands on. One book i was so kindly gifted was Break Up – From Crisis To Confidence by Claire Black. The book is approx £14.99 and can be bought directly from Claire’s website, or on Amazon.
As far as i can remember, this is the first self help style book i have ever read. I never really pictured myself as being someone who would gain much from these kinds of books as i wasn’t going through a breakup, or anything significant like that. I guess you could say i was a bit closed off from those kinds of books. After watching far too many rom-coms, i had imagined the people needing these books to be quivering wrecks, balling their eyes out. However, due to the extra time on my hands i wanted to be more open to new experiences so wanted to give it a read, open minded!
The Author
Author Claire Black is one of the UK’s leading divorce coaches, who offers bespoke coaching to people during and after a bad breakup. Giving them help and guidance to get them through the tough times. Claire actually wrote this book after going through a divorce herself back in 2008. Feeling shocked, betrayed and overwhelmed by the end of her marriage and not wanting to be a victim, Claire decided she wanted to help others going though a similar experience. To give them the opportunity to find their own path, post breakup and feel happy and vibrant again.
The Review
I like that the book is filled with easy to use strategies and tips. Tips you can incorporate in to everyday life, making it simple to follow. It’s very relatable, even for someone having not gone through a bad breakup. In fact, i even found it very useful in my general everyday life for dealing with certain situations.
There are even sections of the book where Claire sets you tasks, kind of like homework. She asks you to write down your feelings in certain situations and how your life could be improved by dealing with them properly. Claire made me think more deeply into situations. Situations that we can all implement in to aspects of our lives.
There are chapters for pretty much everything you could want or need from this style of book. For example, there is an entire chapter on communication. I used to think my communication skills were pretty good. However, she has certainly opened my eyes to new ways of thinking. Claire doesn’t write anything in a descending way. She’s empathetic and it really comes across in a caring way. At no point throughout the book did i feel inadequate or less than an equal.
This is a really great book for anyone; whether you’re going through a breakup or not. It has really insightful tips to guide you through life’s ups and downs. A book i would recommend again and again! Reading this book made me learn a lot about myself. There were things i never knew i didn’t know about myself and how i felt in certain situations (if that makes sense).
What do you think of self help books? Would you give Break Up – From Crisis To Confidence a read?
