Other than the odd vegetable box during the pandemic, I don’t think we ever got any food delivery boxes, especially not like this Swaledale butcher’s meat delivery box. However, we were truly spoiled throughout the pandemic with food delivery companies popping up all over the place. Food being delivered from all over the place at the click of a button, or the simple swipe of a card.

However, having never had meat boxes like this, we were a little dubious about how they would arrive. Here is an in-depth review of just some of the things you can purchase from Swaledale online butchers.
Who Are Swaledale Online Butchers?
Starting off this Swaledale online butchers review with a little bit about the company. Swaledale is a traditional UK-based butchers located in Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales. They are committed to producing high-quality meats. A strictly whole-carcass, nose-to-tail butchers with a passion for supplying local meat throughout the UK.

Their carefully selected meats were once only accessible to some of the UK’s top restaurants. However, now this Dorset meat company is able to deliver restaurant quality British meat all across the UK.
The Swaledale team take pride in the welfare of the animals and meat they sell. Plus, they work with carefully selected native breeds from small farms dotted around the local area. This means you know what you’re getting is going to be good quality and that all of the animals have full traceability.
Another great thing about this company is that all the meat you order comes fresh, never frozen and you get to choose the exact delivery date you want your box to be delivered.
What We Ordered
In this delivery box we ended up going with…
This ended up being just under £75 – we did get a few multiples of each.
How Does The Meat Taste?
Of course, the most important part of this Swaledale online butchers review is the taste!
The Sausages – Everything was delicious, but the stand-out favourite was the sausages. We would normally get our sausages from the supermarket so the difference in flavour was just incredible. You wouldn’t think that sausages would taste that different but now supermarket sausages taste bland and artificial.

The Bacon – The bacon was nice and salty, without being too salty. It is perfect on its own and added to a salad as a crispy topping. However, the best way to eat it was with the steak burgers!
The Burgers – The burgers came thinner than we thought they might. However, they were still delicious and actually as they were thinner, it just meant they cooked quicker.
The Ribeye Steak – The steak was just for my husband as it’s his favourite kind of steak. He devoured both very quickly and said they tasted amazing – even though he cooked them!

What Types Of Meat Are Available To Order?
Regarding the kinds of meat Swaledale has available, I imagine it’s the same as most other butchers in the UK. They have everything from lamb sausages and grass-fed mince beef, to free-range whole chickens, pork belly and diced mutton – along with everything else in between!
You can order a pre-packaged meat box ready to go for £65, or if you want to choose exactly what you get, you can order the meat individually. Also, delivery is free over £50.
How Long Does The Meat Last?
Each cut of meat has around a 4-5 day use-by date on it. However, if you need longer than that, can you simply put it in the freezer to enjoy as and when you like. As it’s so fresh, your nutrient-dense cuts of meat will still contain all of their goodness.

If you do decide to freeze it, make sure you take it out of the freezer the night before and place it in the fridge to defrost slowly.
How Is The Meat Packaged?
All of the meat we received came vacuum-packed flat, so it made it very easy to store it all. Even if you don’t have a big fridge or freezer, you should be able to fit it all in.
The use-by date is clearly visible on the outside of each vacuum pack, along with storage instructions. This made it easy to view at a glance in the fridge.
The box the meat came in was well insulated and also had ice packs inside to keep the meat as cool as possible. We had every confidence looking at the box and how it had been delivered that the meat would be fine to eat.
Is It Worth The Price?
You really can’t even compare meat from the butcher with the kind of meat you would get from a supermarket, they are so different.
Yes, buying from a butcher is always going to be more expensive, but you really can taste the difference – as that famous supermarket states!

If you want to treat yourself with great-tasting meat that’s full of flavour, then always opt for dry-aged meat from a butcher. However, if you aren’t really bothered about the meat, or plan to destroy it by cooking it for days, then supermarket meat would be just fine.
So yes, if you can afford it, meat from butchers like Swaledale is definitely worth that little bit extra. Would you spend that bit extra to buy a Swaledale butcher’s meat delivery box for better-tasting meat?
We hope you found this Swaledale butcher’s meat delivery box review of interest.
