I don’t often get the chance to sit down with a good book and really get to grips with it. I normally get distracted or have other things to do that way on my mind. However, the new me says it’s ok to have some me time. Forget about the household chores or other mundane things for a while and rally get into a good book. My latest book of choice was The Stolen Child by Sanjida Kay

A Gripping Thriller
A gripping, psychological thriller that revolves around every parent’s fear of their child being abducted. However, it also has the added complexity of the child being adopted. Therefore vulnerable to manipulation by a stranger posing as her real parent. The state of Zoe and Ollie Morley’s marriage (her adoptive parents) poses as a weakness in the family. Which presents an un-nerving portrait of how easy it is for a family to become prone to predatory behaviour from an outside influence.

The Morley’s
Zoe and Ollie Morley tried for years to have a baby which turned out to be unsuccessful. So they decided to go down the adoptive route instead which is how they got Evie. Years later they did manage to have a baby of their own. A baby boy they named Ben. Life seemed great, until a stranger began to send Evie letters and gifts. He then goes on to claim he is Evie’s birth father wanting her back.
Obviously I don’t want to give any of the plot away so don’t want to go into too much detail but if you like a book that will keep you your toes from start to finish, wit many twists and turns along the way then I definitely recommend this book to you.

The Setting
I think the setting of this book on the lonely Yorkshire moors added an additional haunting quality to the story, it reminded me of some kind of serial killers hunting ground where bodies could be lost forever…very chilling! A really great read that I couldn’t put down on many occasions…not much house work got done until I had finished this book!
