Who would have thought back in 2019 that the next 2 years of our lives would turn out the way they have since the pandemic began. The people who have died, The NHS being over-run. Life coming to a stand still. I can remember exactly where i was when i first heard about the virus over in China. Thinking it’s probably just one of those things that get hyped up, and would be gone in a few days. Then in February 2020 hearing for the first time it was here in the UK. That’s when i first started to feel real for me i think. Where were you when you first heard about it?
The NHS
I’m sure many of us never really gave the NHS that much thought before all of this began. I guess in many ways, why would you? Unless you, or someone you knew was ill, or having an operation. We live in our own little bubbles until something like his happens that blows it wide open. They’re there when you need them, and when you don’t – out of sight, out of mind. Saving lives in the shadows, behind closed doors.
However these days, i think we all realised maybe we took health workers for granted a bit – i know i did! The work they have all done these last almost 2 years has been incredible to see. Selflessly helping others, while putting themselves at risk in the meantime. It’s thought almost 1,000 NHS workers died due to Covid-19 while trying to save others.
Although things aren’t quite as bad as they were during the peak of it here in the UK, the NHS are still trying to catch up with all the patients they couldn’t see for so long. Waiting lists have become longer than ever. Operations are still being pushed back, and those who can’t afford private healthcare are being forced to wait. Of course, this isn’t the fault of the NHS at all. However, there is something we can do to help.
Private Healthcare
This is where private healthcare comes in. I know many people think why bother going down the expensive private route when you can get free healthcare through the NHS. However there is a very good reason why you should consider this if you can afford to do so.
Yes, it’s not the free option, but free doesn’t always mean better. If you can afford it, by going private, you’re allowing another person to be seen quicker. Someone who maybe can’t afford to wait, or to go private. By offering up your space you could in fact be saving a life! This was actually something i’d never really thought about before until i was reminded the other day.
Plus, by going down the private healthcare route, you’ll get seen quicker. It’s likely you’ll have your own room, and probably a much nicer room too. Private healthcare facilities also generally have state of the art equipment and faster access to medical specialists. So whether you’re looking for private doctors in London, or you want to get in to see a specialist, try going down the private healthcare route first.
My Experience Using Private Healthcare
Back in 1998 i actually had to have an operation which my dad was able to get private through his work at the time. I remember the hospital feeling more like a hotel than a hospital. My private room was pretty big, with a TV and an en-suite bathroom. I even had a large window over-looking the river. It made me feel so much more relaxed and calm. I loved that it was a private room where my parents could stay overnight with me.
Both before and after the operation i was treated like a queen! I got to choose what i wanted to have for meals each day. Although now i can’t go anywhere near a pineapple and cheese sandwich! Not sure what i was thinking with that combination anyway to be honest.
Then once i was back at home, i had regular visits from my doctor to check on me. I had a nasty patch of not being able to stop being sick, because of the drugs they had given to knock me out. So someone came to give me more drugs to help with that. It was a fun month! However, if i had gone through the NHS, i would never have got the same aftercare because they just don’t have the man-power to do so.
Just have a think next time you go to call on the NHS. Could you be going private instead? You never know, you might be saving a life by doing so.
