Mental health can be a troublesome thing and can often come from out of nowhere. One day you think you’re absolutely fine and the next it feels like everything is crashing down around you.
So, what are some of the best things you can do to help look after your mental health day to day?
Play Online Games
Gaming can be a great way to look after your mental health. Plus, these days it doesn’t have to cost you anything with all the free online games available. You could even game with friends and family so there’s a social aspect at play there too.
Some games we’ve been loving lately to help stimulate the mind are…
- Solitaire
- Word Search
- Spelling Bee
- Hidden Objects
- Word Search
- Sudoku
Of course, there are many other online games available to play depending on what you enjoy playing. Whether you’re in the mood for some mental stimulation, or games that will allow your brain to switch off, there are so many to choose from.
For example, if i’m looking for a bit of mental stimulation, i’ll play games such as word search, a crossword game or Sodoku.
Whereas if i’m looking for something to help my brain relax, i’ll play things such as a hidden object game, or a game where you have to match blocks of the same colour into rows. Something simple enough to allow your brain to unwind, whilst still keeping it focused.
Try The Holistic Approach
Different things work for different people, but for some, the holistic method works better than others and they swear by it. It’s all about putting yourself into the right social situations and thinking about what you as a person react best to in regards to your mental health.
Others swear by therapy of a different kind and will focus on finding How to buy the best magnetic bracelet or other kinds of therapy jewellery. The holistic approach might take some time to get used to and to really make the most of it you need to know yourself inside and out. Putting a direct finger on what triggers an episode is really hard and you only realise how hard it is when you try to put it into practice. With that said, it’s certainly worth a try.
Focus On Humour
Humour can be a brilliant remedy to improve your mental health. The simple act of smiling and laughing can change your mood quite quickly and give you a different outlook on the situation you’re in. This might be a case of watching your favourite box set or going to see a funny film.
Perhaps you’d like to pull some funny pranks or simply spend some time with people who make you laugh regularly. It’s been proven that the simple act of smiling can make someone happier, so try to do it as often as you can. Humour as a remedy is really important and if you haven’t tried it before you should certainly give it a go and see if it can work for you.

Goal Setting
Having something to really focus down on can make a huge difference to your mental state of mind.
Instead of allowing your mind to wander down dark holes, give it something more positive to concentrate on. Goals can be a great way to get your mind to focus on other things. Plus, they can also give you direction and meaning if you’re feeling a little lost.
Perhaps it’s a goal to do with your current work situation that you want to improve. Moving up in the company, or moving departments perhaps. Maybe it’s a total change of carer you’ve been dreaming of. Well now is the time to start putting that dream into action.
Or maybe it’s a personal goal – such as learning a new skill, or getting a bit fitter. Whether it’s something as big as being able to run the next London marathon, or learning to jump rope in your back garden.
Whatever your goal is, try to focus more of your energy on that and spend less time down those dark and gloomy holes!
Check Your Physical Health
Bad physical health can get you down and lead to a worsening of your mental state. Improve your mental health to also boost your physical health. There are many ways to do this. For some it might be working on getting some more exercise in. Whether just going for a walk or training hard.
Others might want to focus on pain management. If there’s something hurting or making life hard then get it seen to and move on. If you’re really struggling with this then try to work out with a friend for some extra motivation, or instead you could work with a personal trainer to really bear down on the gains.
Simply knowing what kind of state your physical health is in can help you manage it better. You can start off by just going for a walk each day. Then you can start counting your steps and trying to make your quota by going on longer walks. It really is easy to start, it’s just the first step can be daunting.
Try A New Hobby
Hobbies can become stale over time and finding a new one can give you a new lease of life. Try reading for a start. It’s easy, cheap and there are so many genres and authors to choose from.
It might be rekindling an old hobby you haven’t interacted with for a while. Creative hobbies are great because they really engage the mind.
Consider painting or crafts. There are so many options out there, it just might take a case of trial and error to find the one which you really enjoy. If you’re really stuck, ask a friend or family member to introduce you to what they do to kill time. You might take to it nicely.
See Something New
New scenery can work wonders for the brain. This doesn’t mean jetting off on an expensive holiday, although you can do of course. You could just go somewhere more local that you haven’t been to before. Or somewhere you haven’t been for a while. Fresh air and new sights can help you look at life in a different way.
It’s easy for life to get a bit stale and repetitive at times. To forget what else is around you to see and experience – even if it’s just a walk in the woods you haven’t done for a while!
How would you improve your mental health? What are your top tips?
