So here in the UK we’re now a little way into lockdown 2.0. Unlike the first, this one seems to be a lot wetter! The first lockdown was full of warm sunny days and bright blue skies making things feel a lot less depressing.
However, this one seems to be quite the opposite, with everyone getting bored having to stay indoors due to the constant rain. So, incase you’re getting bored having to stay in, here are some things to do on a rainy day in lockdown.
Declutter
With all the extra time on your hands, why not make the most of it and do something you’ve been putting off. Yes, decluttering isn’t the most fun thing to do. However, you’ll feel great once it’s done. You could even get the kids involved and make it into a game of some kind.
Write Out A Job List
This might sound really silly and boring but it’s been a great help for me. I went all around the house and wrote down a list of things i wanted to change in the house. Whether it was a room that do with a lick of paint. Or perhaps one of the windows could do with replacing.
A bit of skirting board that had popped off. A leaking tap that could do with fixing. Photo frames that need hanging…etc. Whatever it is, write it down on a piece of paper. That way you’ll be able to see everything that needs doing. Then you can work out what you can do yourself and what you’ll need to get someone in to do for you.
Once you’ve got this sorted, you can work out your budget and begin to book in jobs to be completed. It’s so satisfying to be able to go back through your list and tick off jobs.
Themed Film Day
OK, so sitting around watching endless amounts of Youtube, Netflix…etc isn’t the most productive thing to do. However, once in a while it can be great fun! You could pick a genre, or series and binge watch the entire thing!
Daily Tasks
With many of us not being able to go in to work or being laid off completely, it can be hard to find a daily purpose and find some kind of routine. If this is you, try writing out a list of tasks for the month. 30 tasks in a grid style on an A4 piece of paper.
It could be anything from – wash the cars, dust the house, tidy the garden. To – go for a long walk, organise the filing cabinet, watch a new musical, go for a bike ride…etc
The idea is you pick one thing off this list to do everyday depending on your mood. Then once completed, you cross it off. It might be quite a small thing to do but it will give you something to focus on and gives your day purpose.
Get Baking
With all this extra time on your hands, you could start your baking journey. Or, perhaps you already bake but don’t have the time to do it that often. Even if you’re trying to be healthy, there are so many amazing healthy recipes you could be trying.
I have signed myself up to the Deliciously Ella App which is full of amazingly tasty, yet healthy recipes to try. Most are pretty simple to do and all come with really good instructions so anyone could give them a go.
However, if you aren’t as bothered about making healthier recipes, you could make some delicious pumpkin spice cupcakes instead. Fill your home with delicious baking smells, good enough to put a smile on anyone’s face!
Get Juicing
One thing i’ve been loving doing lately is juicing. It’s great fun to try out new recipes and flavour combinations. Plus, it’s a great way to get kids to eat more fruits and veggies in a fun way. Get them involved in the juicing process. Even if you don’t have kids, it’s also a great way for you to get more micro-nutrients into your body.
With so many viruses going around, now is THE time to be as healthy as you possibly can. The juicer i have is the Nama Juicer. It is VERY expensive but you totally get what you pay for as this is a cold press juicer. However, if funds are tight, they are plenty of others you can get on places like Amazon.
Get Creative
If you’re trying to save some money, why not use this time to get creative with homemade presents? You could make your own hampers to give to family. You could even create your own – decorations, soaps, candles, homeware items…etc
Do Some Online Shopping
OK, so maybe don’t go crazy with buying things you just don’t need. But, while you have the time you could be researching things you might be looking to get. Maybe your dishwasher is on it’s last legs but you haven’t had the time to research buying a new one. Have a look around and see what’s available.
Perhaps one of your favourite shops is having a sale. You could plan ahead and get birthday, Easter or even Christmas presents sorted for everyone.
Do A Puzzle Or Board Game
There are some really great jigsaw puzzles and boardgames you could play. Either as a family or in a couple. Even by yourself! Or you can play your favourite card games with your friends online on World of Card Games.
Snuggle up in front of the fire, get yourself a cup of cocoa and immerse yourself in the game.
Go For A Walk/Run In The Rain
OK, so if it’s going to rain everyday, why not just join in! I love to go for a walk or run in the rain. You have to be prepared to get wet obviously but if you go with that mindset, it can be fun! The rain will keep you moving faster than ever and you can enjoy a hot bath when you get home.
Lately walking in the rain has become one of my favourite things to do. There’s pretty much no one else around and there’s something so calming about walking in the rain. Wrap up warm, get yourself some comfortable and snazzy wellies and get in some of your daily steps!
Do Some Decorating
Whether it’s doing a spot of painting, filing in those old picture holes that have been there for years or doing a bit of general up keep. Spend some time on doing up your home. If we’re going to be stuck at home ore than ever, it should be a place you’re proud of!
Get Cleaning
Yep, not such a fun one but an activity that probably needs doing. Plus, it will take up a lot of time so you won’t be bored. Put on your favourite Spotify playlist and get stuck in!
Read A Book
With all this extra free time, why not read that book you’ve been meaning to get to for months! Snuggle up on the sofa with a cozy blanket, the fire roaring and get stuck in.
Write A Letter
As we still aren’t able to see friends and family, why not write your loved ones a letter. Put pen to paper and let your loved ones know you’re thinking of them by writing a lovely letter. Update them on what’s been going on in your life. What your plans are once the lockdown has finished…etc. You could even include photos of your children (if you have any).
Sign Up For Online Classes
Make the most of lockdown 2.0 and sign up for some online classes. Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn? A language perhaps, learn how to bake better…etc. Don’t wish away this free time, make great use of it and come out the end a better, more knowledgeable person.
Do A Home Workout
We may not be able to go to the gyms, but that doesn’t mean we all have to sit about getting fat! There are so many great free online workouts you can do at home. Plus, most of them will offer options with and without equipment so there’s no excuse! So, get off your butt and do a home workout. You’ll feel so much better for moving your body.
Take A Long Bath
Get out your favourite bath bomb, book and candle and take a long, relaxing soak in the tub. You could even take your laptop in with you and catch up on some Youtube videos or the latest Netflix series while you relax.

Hopefully some of these will resonate with you and inspire you to get out of your rut. Look after your mental health and do something you love and that makes you smile.
