Make YOU a priority and allow yourself some selfish time to think about just you. Spend time doing what you love to do with an epic self care day. Whatever makes you feel relaxed, happy, content, or even just at peace.
Why take time for yourself? Just as you would do exercise to keep your body in tip-top condition. You also need to think about your mental health as well. Doing things you love, or that bring you joy will help to improve your mental health, even if it is just for a day.
Incase you’re struggling for ideas on how you can pamper yourself, here are a few self care ideas to get you started.
Take A Relaxing Bath
Light those candles, fill the bath with your favourite bubbles and get soaking. While your worries away as you drift deep into relaxation mode. You could even take a book in there with you to read while you soak.
Go For A Walk
Going for a walk is one of the best things you can do for your body, mind and soul. Put your new JBL wireless headphones in and listen to your favourite playlist or podcast. Simply let your feet do the rest. Walking, or exercise in general, is a great way to unwind and de-stress.
Bake Something You Love
Whether you love to bake your favourite sweet treats, or you prefer to make delicious savoury meals, or snacks. Baking can be great for the mind to focus on something other than your busy life. Put all your concentration into this activity, make a mess if you like, then eat your yummy creations.
Do Some Batch Cooking
One thing i love to do on a Sunday afternoon is to batch cook (pre prep) all my meals for the week ahead. Similar to baking, it forces you to concentrate only on the task at hand. The repetitive-ness of cooking and dishing out in large numbers can be quite therapeutic and calming. If you have a busy brain, give it a try and see if it helps you slow down. Plus, you’ll also be organising your meals for the next week – giving you more time for more exciting things.
Try Meditation Or Yoga
Step away from the screens and indulge in some quiet time meditating or try some yoga flows. Use this time to connect with yourself. Listen to your breathing. Hear your thoughts. Evaluate how your body is feeling – do you have any aches/pains anywhere. Or, if this isn’t for you, perhaps spend the time doing some stretching, or foam rolling to loosen and tight muscles.
Do Some DIY
Self care isn’t all about pampering your mind and body. Sometimes self care simply means getting jobs done so they’re not on your mind, weighing you down. Are there things around your home you’ve been meaning to do for a while? Why not use this time to tick a few of these things off your list. It might not seem like the most relaxing thing to do, however, by getting them done, you’ll be clearing your mind of them. An empty mind, can be such a relaxing and stress-free place to be.
Try Journaling
Similarly to writing a letter to a loved one, journaling can be great for putting your thoughts down on paper and out of your head. Take stocks of the thoughts in your head, and work through them if you can. Perhaps there’s something that’s been on your mind for a while that you didn’t even know was there. Or perhaps by getting them out of your head, you might be able to deal with them in a more clear way. You never know, there might be an award winning novelist in there!
Do A Home Workout
A quick 30 minute home workout could be all you need to get the endorphins flowing in your system. Exercise is a great way to give yourself a natural pick me up, and a boost of energy. Whether it’s a workout you find online, or something you make up yourself. Anything that gets your heart rate up and the blood pumping is all you need.

Declutter
I don’t know about you but i find a good declutter is all i need to make me feel 100 times better. Having a clear, clutter free environment around you can instantly make your head feel lighter and less cluttered. Imagine everything you own is in a backpack you have to carry around with you, pulling you backwards, slowing you down. The less life clutter you have to deal with, the easier it’s going to be to carry around with you. Go through your home room by room and get rid of anything you don’t use, along with anything that doesn’t bring you joy or have sentimental value.
Take Some YOU Time To Read A Book
Many people feel guilty for taking time out to read a book, feeling selfish by doing so. Or thinking about all the other tasks that need to be done around the house instead. Why is it most of us will only ever read a book on holiday? Take an hour or 30 minutes to yourself, a vacation from your life, to submerge yourself in a fictional world where anything is possible. Allow your brain to go wondering in a fantasy land.
However, if reading a fiction book isn’t really your thing, then perhaps you could read a book that might inspire you, help you, make you laugh, or even teach you something.
If you enjoy reading about politics, then perhaps this witty portrayal Being Woake by author Jon Cross might take your fancy. A light-hearted take on the running of local councils with some proper laugh out loud moments. A great read if you’re looking for something less serious.
Or, perhaps this novel The Golden Rule by author Robin Cade might be more your style. If you’ve ever wondered what legacy you might leave behind after you’re gone, this book is a must read. Whether it’s what you leave behind in work you’ve done, things you’ve accomplished, or even what you’ve done to help the world be a better place for those you leave behind. If fairness, diversity and equality are areas of interest to you, this book could be a great way to help you unwind.
Watch Your Favourite Movie
Spend the day watching your favourite tv boxset or even have a movie marathon. Do you think you could watch the entire lord of the rings movies in one day? Get the fire going (if you have one), snuggle up under a blanket and snack on some of your favourite treats.
Write A Letter
With everything being online these days, the need for actually writing a letter with a pen and paper seems to be a lost art. However, writing the ‘old fashioned’ way, can be such a relaxing and therapeutic thing to do. Writing a letter is an especially great thing to do if you’re sending it to an older person. Many over 80’s won’t have adapted to the online world, so writing a letter is a great way to keep connected with them. They’ll appreciate your letter more than you could ever imagine.
Allow Yourself A Daytime Nap
I bet you haven’t allowed yourself to have a daytime nap since you were a child – or perhaps the last time you were ill. For some people, having a daytime nap can be such a fab thing to do, and a great way to recharge.
Do Some Colouring
A few years back adult colouring books seemed to come out of nowhere, and what a great invention they were! Spending time colouring in beautiful images. Worrying about nothing other than staying inside the lines, and what colour you were going to choose next. You could spend hours relaxing and allowing your mind to run free. Relaxing with the repetitive strokes as you brought a picture to life with your imagination.
Listen To Your Favourite Podcast
My husband and i recently had to do an 8 hour round trip in the car which we were both dreading. However, we came across the new Ricky Gervais podcast which we listened to all the way there and back again. The time flew by and we were in hysterics the entire car journey. However, even if you don’t have any long journeys to do, listening to a podcast can help you switch off from the stress of life for a few minutes.
Create A New Spotify Playlist
This is a great one, especially if you love to listen to music – whether while your walking to/from work, or even at the gym. A new playlist can give you a boost of motivation to get you moving. Finding new songs you love can be the best feeling in the world – until you over play it and can’t stand it anymore!
Teach Yourself Something New
If you find learning is how you relax and unwind, perhaps you could teach yourself a new skill. Whether it’s something active like jump rope, or a dance routine. Or perhaps something more academic like writing, or even an online class teaching you how to cook delicious meals. You’re never to old to learn something new.
Have A Spa/Pamper Day
From having a relaxing bubble bath, to pampering yourself with a lavish skincare routine. Get out all of your facial oils, creams, balms, tonics and masks and see what you can treat your face to this self care day. Light some candles, fill your diffuser with relaxing lavender essential oils and simply sit back. If you have a partner at hand, perhaps they could treat you to a sensual massage – especially seeing as it’s Valentine’s Day!
Spend Time With Friends Or Family
With time limited during the week due to work commitments, and possibly your own family life, spending quality time with the ones you love can be few and far between. Making time to hang out with friends, catching up on life and having a giggle can be great for your mental health.
Play A Board Game
Ditch the screens for a while and play your favourite board game. Especially on a rainy day, playing a board game can be great for passing the time and relaxing, or stimulating the mind.
What will you do on your next self care day?
My son is Autistic and would really love a pair of these for him to listen to music while travelling to school. He is a huge music fan and listens to all genres of music from Abba to Coldplay.
I suffer from insomnia & RLS so I don’t sleep well. To relax, I listen to/watch true crime content. I would love to win so that I can try to drift off without disturbing my partner (and drown out his incessant snoring!)
I’d love to win a pair of JBL headphones to be able to enjoy listening to music while doing a jigsaw to relax or when our for a walk be brilliant to have
I have started learning Spanish using a language app and my wired headphones are getting in the way.
These would allow me to shut of and chill while listening to music as it relaxes me and I Dont relax very often as I get Disturbed.
l do about 12 of these ideas and even though l would like to, l don’t seem to have the time to do more. After a very difficult ending to 2021 l made sure 2022 would start better and l downloaded a meditation podcast and started going for a walk, after l de-tangle my headphones!! I felt my mood lifting and decided to do some decorating to bring colour into my life. I have also just joined a local netball team after not playing for 30 odd years where l am making new friends, learning something new and keeping fit, not bad as l turn 50 on the 19th Feb. Whether walking or dancing around my kitchen listening to music with a paint brush in my hand, taking that time for my mental health is really important. Thank you for your ideas.
I like to run but, on the days I’m not running, I walk on the treadmill while listening to podcasts or watching YouTube. It’s a good way to unwind. These earphones would be ideal for that, especially as they’re wireless.
I’d love to win a pair of JBL wireless headphones so I can bluetooth them to my television to get a better experience, especially when watching a movie, I’d use them for zoom meetings, as I currently use a wired set provided by work, I love listening to audio books and podcasts so these would be great to have when going for walks (rain or shine love the waterproof feature) , and when I commute to work, this would make the journey go quicker and be less boring. The duel connect feature is useful, and the 6 hour battery life means I don’t have to worry about them running out of charge on my journey.
These would be perfect to wear over my hearing aids. I love listening to music and have been wanting to get a pair of wireless headphones so that I can get some of those mundane household tasks done while listening to some of my favourites – Luther Vandross, Take That, Coldplay, Elbow, to name a few! Also to be able to get out for some exercise and healthy fresh air while listening to an entertaining podcast or listening to an audio book while relaxing and doing some cross stitching. There’s so many uses for these wire free fantastic headphones that are perfect for a hard ion hearing person like me who can’t wear in ear buds. Hope I win! 🤞🤞
