Are you looking for some new crazy bucket list ideas to achieve this year?
There’s nothing quite like finding some new superior hiking trails to go off adventuring on in your favourite hiking boots. Even battling the foulest of conditions, the feeling of cresting a peak, or uncovering a majestic view is unmatched. Unless of course you include the extremely well-earned hot mug of tea/coffee at the end of it!
Crazy Bucket List Ideas
Hiking holidays are a love letter to the natural world. A challenge for both the body and the mind (and the feet if you don’t have good hiking boots). There are thousands of hiking routes the world over, but four in particular should be in your crazy bucket list ideas for sure.
OK, so you probably wouldn’t want to do any of these superior hiking trails having had no prior training. However, they’re all very do-able with a bit of practise under your belt – and of course a bit of money! To do any of these hiking trails, you will need to spend money on getting the right equipment – which could be quite expensive. However, it would be money well spent when you finally crest the peak of the mountain. An experience un-matched when you feel you’re on top of the world.
Why Go Hiking?
There are many benefits to getting outside and going for a walk. Whether it’s a simple walk around where you live. Or even going on an adventure hike. Regular walking will help you to maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat. It can also aid in preventing conditions such as heart disease, strokes and high blood pressure. Along with many other benefits such as –
- Improving cardiovascular health
- Strengthens your bones and muscles
- Improves endurance
- Walking can help to increase energy levels
- Boosts mood
- Improves your balance and coordination
- Strengthens the immune system
- Hiking can even help to reduce stress and tension
How To Prepare For A Hike
If you don’t have any health conditions, simply put on a pair of either walking shoes, or hiking boots and start walking. Just make sure if your hiking boots are new, you wear them in first! If it’s not really something you’ve done before, start off small with maybe just 20 minutes. Each time you go for a walk, you can increase the time, or your pace to help improve your endurance.
If you plan to go walking alone, make sure you tell people where you’re going, and how long you plan to be. This is to ensure if anything does happen to you, people will know where to start looking. You should also take your mobile phone with you incase you do get in to trouble.
Once you’ve found your feet, try and challenge yourself a bit. Try walking on a different terrain perhaps. If you’re used to walking on paths, on your next outing, try a wooded trail, or through some fields. This will get you familiar with walking on more un-even ground, walking through mud and puddles.
The longer your walks become, you should ensure you have the right equipment with you. In a small rucksack you should have – a water bottle, some snacks, maybe a hat or raincoat and even a watch or GPS tracker.
The Tour Du Mont Blanc Hiking Trail
One of the first superior hiking trails is the Tour du mont blanc. “Far, far above, piercing the infinite sky, / Mont Blanc appears, – still, snowy, serene…” Mont Blanc cuts a sublime shape in the Alps, being the mountain range’s tallest peak and the central subject of numerous creative works over the past 500 years – most famous of which being Shelley’s sublime ‘Mont Blanc’. Mont Blanc is also a firm favourite destination for hikers, offering over 150km of pathway in the form of the Tour du Mont Blanc, by which to discover the Alpine landscape at its best.
Hike Mount Kilimanjaro
Tanzania is home to Africa’s tallest peak, and the tallest free-standing mountain on the planet: Mount Kilimanjaro. The mountain is instantly recognisable by profile alone, and home to a number of impressive routes and treks that drink in an edifying landscape of rolling hills and cloud. The Lemosho Route is the hike most often recommended to holidaymakers, owing to its relative ease; the route takes a week, starting by Londorossi Gate and ending just shy of the summit itself.

The Everest Base Camp Trek
Mount Everest is a destination that requires no introduction. It is an extreme location, and a bucket-list conquering for daring mountaineers and thrill-seekers the world over. But you don’t need to be an adrenaline junkie with no fear of heights to enjoy the stunning vistas presented by the Himalayas. The Everest Base Camp Trek is a two-week journey from Kathmandu to the base camp some 5km above sea level. The trek is one of the most immersive adventure holidays to experience, incorporating mountain towns like Namche Bazar and unparalleled views of the sublime Everest itself.
Hike The Mountains Of The Moon Trek
The Mountains of the Moon trek is a road less travelled for many explorers, but a beautiful one nonetheless. The trek can be found in the Rwenzori mountains one the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda – an area once beset by war and violence, but today a once-again peaceful environment. The trek may present difficulties for those new to hiking, with climbing elements and technically difficult trek to summit, but the locale has to be seen to be believed. Even if you only make to one of the static tents that act as a base camp of sorts, you can be sure to have your efforts rewarded.
Which of these crazy bucket list ideas would you go on first?
