When it comes to wellbeing initiatives such as following a healthy lifestyle – you don’t need to spend a lot of money. Instead, you need to invest time and effort into your health and wellbeing. To, in particular, exercise regularly, eat more fruits and veggies, get a good night’s sleep and drink lots of water. Simple right?!

Of course, there are many ways you can invest in your health and wellbeing, but they can be divided into paid and free. Although, sometimes, one cannot exist without the other and requires effort and dedication from you. But the benefits of such work are difficult to overestimate. Of course, you need to take care of your health and not self-medicate. Choose only the best medicines, such as the terfenadine brand name.
Here are some tips to help you improve your health and wellbeing…
What’s Well Being?
Before we get in to how you can improve your health and well being, it’s important to know what well being is so you can fully embrace it.
Wellbeing is the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy. Balancing life so you feel good both inside and out. There is your physical wellbeing, and your mental wellbeing. Both are as important as each other, and when both are in alignment, you will be at your best.
Include Exercise In Your Daily Routine
One of the first wellbeing initiatives to put on your list is exercise. We’ve all been told since childhood that exercise is life. And by exercise, this doesn’t mean you have to sign up to an expensive gym, or buy everything you need for a home gym. By exercise we just mean move your body. Test your body to see what it can do – sensibly of course! Go for a long walk, or bike ride. maybe even go for a run, or a swim. You don’t need to have or spend money to be fit and active. Did you know doing 30 minutes of walking a day is one of the best forms of exercise you can do. Simply slip on your jacket and beanie (especially if here in the UK), and off you go. You could even take some headphones with you and listen to a podcast.

Did you know that moderate exercise improves metabolism, increases immunity, and is such a great mood booster. If you’re feeling stressed, go and hit a punch bag for a while, go for a run, or even do some yoga in your front room.
There are many free programs online you can do at home. From Zumba dance classes and wellbeing yoga, to high intensity body combat classes, or the more gentle pilates style classes. All you can do on your own – for free.
Schedule Regular Health Checks
Another very important wellbeing initiative is to ensure your life and your health in advance. There are many external factors we are not able to control – accidents, fires, and natural disasters. See your dentist regularly. Book in to see your doctor for a health check every now and then. Get your eyes checked at your opticians once a year. You could even book an appointment at a private facility to have a full health check – something myself and my husband are planning to do very soon.

You could make sure you go and see a physiotherapist or chiropractor, or even a wellbeing massage therapist every few months to give you the once over. There is no better feeling than having a deep tissue massage to release aches and pains. OK, perhaps not while it’s being done, but a day or two later!

Quit Bad Habits
OK, so technically, there aren’t really any bad habits. Everything in moderation – except perhaps taking illegal drugs, or killing someone…etc. It’s all about balance when it comes to health and wellbeing. One chocolate bar every now and then is fine. However, 3 chocolate bars every day isn’t fine! If you take out what you love completely, you’ll only crave it more.

Instead, try the 80 – 20 rule. Be 80% healthy, and 20% not so healthy. This gives you the option to have a treat every now and then, meaning you won’t crave it as much – just as a child wants to do something the instance they’re told they can’t.
Why Healthy Eating Is Important
Have you heard the saying – we are what we eat? Most health problems are due to poor nutrition and lack of exercise. It’s essential to understand that constantly being on a low calorie, does not mean you’re eating right, or being healthy.
- If you’re eating healthy, nutritious foods, you’re less likely to crave high fatty, or sugary foods.
- Eating a well balanced diet will give you and your body everything it needs to thrive.
- You’re less likely to gain weight due to snacking or over eating.
- A diet rich in fruits & vegetables means you’re less likely to have health issues later on.
Smile & Laugh More
OK, this wellbeing initiative probably isn’t as well known, but it’s just as important. Did you know, smiling and laughing is a great way to strengthen the immune system and reduce stress in the body. Yes, a smile alone can enhance not only mental health but also physical health.

How To Succeed
If the thought of a complete overhaul is too much for you, start small instead. Do one thing every day to improve your health and wellbeing. Starting small today, is better than not starting at all!
Taking care of your health and wellbeing means changing your lifestyle. It shouldn’t be something you can’t sustain over a long period of time. For example, going for a 10k run every day for the foreseeable future, isn’t sustainable. Whereas perhaps saying you’ll do one fitness class per week could be sustainable.
Here are some ideas of little things you can do to improve your wellbeing and mindfulness…
- Walking instead of drive.
- Take the stairs instead of the lift.
- Go for a walk after dinner.
- Have one completely plant based meal each week.
- Only have one takeaway per month.
- Set yourself the challenge of doing 10k steps a day.
- Do 10 minutes worth of stretching a day.
- Eat a piece of fruit instead of a chocolate bar twice a week.
- Only have a pudding at the weekend.
Just remember, no one will love and care for your body as much as you do. You are the one in control of what you put in to your body. You determine how much exercise you do. No one else can put in the effort for you. Only you can make a change to your health and wellbeing.
Which of these wellbeing initiatives will you be starting with?
