With all this crazy hot weather we’ve been experiencing these last few days here in the UK. It’s not surprising we’re doing everything and anything we can to stay cool – including creating our own ice lolly recipes! Us Brits aren’t equipped to cope with temperatures above 25 degrees. So when we’re getting hot summer days in the 30s, it can be hard to deal with at times.

We have as many doors and windows open as possible, the lightest sheets on the bed (if any). Trying to find any cold spots left on the bed to enjoy for that split second before whichever limb found it heats it up again.
All 15 fans blowing the hot air around the house. The frozen water bottles crack and drip throughout the night as they melt. The UK just isn’t made for any kind of warm weather.
So, we do what we can to give ourselves that tiny bit of joy and relief from the heat – by making and eating copious amounts of ice cream and ice lollies! With that in mind, here is an amazingly tasty, healthy ice lolly recipe you can make yourself at home.

Homemade Fruity Ice Lolly Recipe
This homemade ice lolly recipe actually came about on a super hot day when I was desperate to make myself something icy cold. I remembered I had some ice lolly moulds and some wooden sticks (left over from our veggie patch – unused) I could use to make fruit lollies. We also had quite a lot of fresh fruit in the house at the time so decided to see what frozen treat I could come up with using what we had.
For an off the cuff concoction, it actually came out amazingly well. The lollies were fruity, cold and delicious. Just what i needed for a few minutes of relief from the heat. I used the standing up, silicon ice lolly moulds which were fine.
However, if you plan on getting yourself some ice lolly moulds, I’d go for the lying-down ones instead. They are much easier to get out once frozen and they won’t swell out in the middle (as these ones did).
Why Make Your Own Ice Lollies?
Making your own homemade ice lollies can be a great thing you do with the kids as a fun activity. However, making your own also means you get to decide what ingredients you use – the list is endless!
You can make pretty much any recipe combination you like, or just use up any leftover fruit you have at home. I’m not quite sure how bananas would work in this kind of recipe, but why not try out as many different combinations as you can and see which ones you love the most.

It’s also great to make your own if you have any food intolerances or allergies. For example, if you’re gluten-free, or lactose intolerant, you can adjust it to suit your needs.

Homemade Healthy Ice Lolly Recipe
Equipment
- Juicer (if you have one)
- Ice Lolly Mould
Ingredients
- 3 Oranges
- 1 Pear
- 1/2 Lemon
- 1 Thumb Ginger
- 1 Tsp Agave Nectar You could use honey instead, or skip this step
- 1 Heinz Nature – apple, banana, mango Optional – the puree'd fruit takes these ice lollies to a whole new level
Instructions
- If you have a juicer, put everything through the juicer (except the heinz pouch) and blend until smooth. If you don't have a juicer, juice your fruit however you normally would in to a pourable container.
- Once you have the juice in a container, add the puree and mix well.
- If you are adding in the Agave nectar or honey, do so at the same time as the puree.
- Once it's mixed well, pour your juice in to the moulds and add the sticks.
- Place in the freezer for at least 12 hours (more if you can)
- Enjoy!
Receipe Notes
Of course, you don’t have to make this homemade ice lollies recipe with orange juice, you could make watermelon and kiwi lollies, or milk ice lollies using coconut milk instead. Even strawberry ice lollies would work if you have a blender to puree the strawberries.

Once you have the basic recipe (above), you can make it your own by switching up the ingredients. You could even change the moulds you use to create ice pops instead or ice lollies on a stick. I only made these orange lollies because it’s what we had at home at the time.
If you wanted to go a bit more decadent, you could even create coconut ices by using either coconut water, or coconut cream with some warm water. Then all you’d do is simply pour the mixture into your ice lolly moulds and freeze. After around 24 hours they should be ready to eat as a deliciously cool snack.
