Home improvements, upgrades, and changes around the house never seem to end and can be very costly. However, there are many things you can do yourself around your home to make life easier. Simply note down what you’d like to change. This way you can clearly see your wish list of jobs which makes it easier to choose what to start with.

Upgrade The Lighting

The lighting is something that often gets overlooked in the early days in a new home. Yet it has a meaningful impact on how every room feels to spend time in. Overly dark rooms or corners that aren’t brightly lit can bring the mood down. You can begin to feel claustrophobic and tired due to the lack of natural light.

Replacing Old Doors & Windows

However, if you are experiencing issues with any of your doors and/or windows, there are ways to fix this. Whether you have have wooden doors, uPVC doors, or even sash windows. You could get an engineer out to see if they could do a more cost effective fix on them. Or, if you’re feeling brave, you could watch a few Youtube videos to see how you might be able to do small fixes yourself. Switch To Natural Cleaning Products

For some people, cleaning is just an annoying job to do so they’ll use the cheapest products available. However, they can leave a nasty smell and are often filled with chemicals.

It’s far better for your health, and the environment to switch to natural cleaning products. They work just as well and won’t leave your home cover in nasty chemicals.

Try baking soda in place of bleach for a less coarse approach to cleaning stubborn surfaces. It won’t leave marks and is soft on whatever you’re cleaning. 

White wine vinegar is also an excellent choice for a surface disinfectant. Use a microfibre cloth with it, which is re-washable later.

Re-Decorate

Giving your home a new lick of paint can make a huge difference to the look and feel.

Take your time when picking a colour. You can get colour swatches of different palettes to test them at home to see which ones look. Avoid making a flash decision on this because painting takes time and it can be costly!

Also, bear in mind if you’re thinking about selling the home soon. A more neutral colour scheme is going to be beneficial later on. 

Hide The Cords

Even though we are all slowly heading towards being 100% cordless, there may still be a few on show.

Make it a task to remove, hide, or cover over these potential tripping hazards. Even if you know where they are, visitors may not. Also, having wires on show doesn’t look all that great. You could use some cable tidies, or strategically place a rug or a piece of furniture to cover the worst offenders!

Clean The Bathroom Tiles

The bathroom tiles, especially around the shower area, may have grout which has been getting steadily greyer over the years. If that rings true with you, then isn’t it about time to do something about it if you find it annoying enough?

Cleaning the grout requires vinegar and baking soda. Or, a cleaning solution suitable for the task sold at a local DIY store. Scrubbing using a brush between the tiles in a gentle but firm manner is the way to go here. Avoid risking dislodging a tile when doing so but be determined about it. The grout will return to its white appearance with a bit of elbow grease. 

Home improvements are well worth the time and effort. Start with smaller tasks and work upwards from there.
