Listen up, couples! The end of January is in sight, so it’s time to start getting ready for Valentine’s Day. Are you ready? Have you started prepping – that is if you and your partner even celebrate Valentine’s Day!
Whether it’s getting creative to make your loved one something special, or a spot of shopping if you know there’s something they’d love. Perhaps gifts aren’t their thing and you know they’d rather have a meal at their favourite restaurant. Or even having a night in, watching their favourite film with a takeaway, or a meal you’ve prepared for them. Whatever it is you do, your partner will appreciate the effort you’ve gone to.
Here are a few tips to help you make this Valentine’s Day the best one yet…
The Perfect Gift
It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without giving or receiving the perfect gift. Whether that’s something homemade, like their favourite cake perhaps. Thoughtful gifts don’t have to cost a lot of money, many great gifts come right from the heart. However, if you’ve found them something you know they’ll love, spending a bit of money is no bad thing.
So, start your Valentine’s Day prep with a thorough search for something your partner will absolutely adore. Think about their loves, their hobbies and their interests. You could even do some undercover work and try to find out if there is anything you particularly want. Whether it’s a deep dive browse online, or a lengthy wander down the high street. You just need to look in the right places for gifts for her – or him of course!
Thoughtful Gifts
You can always buy smaller gifts, or make it yourself if you don’t have a big budget. A high price tag doesn’t make the perfect Valentine’s Day gift – thoughtfulness is key here. It’s the little things that matter more. So, if you can’t afford an expensive gift, instead opt for cute token gestures that make the day extra-special like:
- Bringing home a fresh bunch of red roses.
- Buying a box of his/her/their favourite choccies.
- Running them a steaming candle-lit bath.
- Making them breakfast in bed.
- Creating a playlist of their favourite songs.
- Bake them their favourite cake/cookies/brownie.
Make A Fancy Reservation
Perhaps instead of a gift, you could book a romantic dinner date at their restaurant. However, make sure you’ve made a reservation well in advance as tables on Valentine’s Day generally book up fast! You don’t want to miss out on getting the best table.
Or, perhaps you could choose to make dinner at home instead. Just go above and beyond the usual boring midweek meal. Make it a 3-course home-cooked extravaganza with all of their favourite foods and a delicious treat for pudding. Depending on the weather, you could even set up a romantic evening around your outdoor firepit with some roasted marshmallows.
Or Plan Something Fun
If you fancy doing something other than dinner and drinks, go fun and unexpected. There’s plenty of unique experiences or activities out there to choose from. Perhaps something adventurous or thrilling like a hot air balloon ride? Or maybe ultra-romantic, like a weekend cabin getaway to a beautiful beach?
Think outside the box and make sure it’s something you’ll both enjoy. This is a chance to plan something you’ve both wanted to do together for ages.
Make An Effort
Once you’ve made plans of what you’re going to do, it’s time for some self-grooming. You want to look your best for your partner, right? So, make yourself look presentable with a fresh haircut. It’s all about making the effort. A new bottle of fragrance will work wonders for stirring up your pheromones too. Smelling good is a must.
Plus, if you’re going somewhere fancy, we say dress to impress. Buy yourself a new outfit so you’re looking and feeling sexy. An old pair of trainers and baggy tracksuit bottoms on a date to Nandos simply won’t cut it.
Set Up A Romantic Mood
If you’re staying at home, set up a romantic ambience around the house. Light a new scented candle and switch on the romantic lighting. You could even go one step further by decorating the house with various romantic things, like rose petals or tea lights.
Remember, the trick of leading rose petals to the bath or bed always works well. Valentine’s Day relies on the element of surprise, so think of some romantic ideas ahead of time.
Plan Some Fun In The Bedroom
At the end of your day, when it’s time to head to the bedroom, make sure you’ve laid a fresh set of clean bed sheets. Even a bottle of champagne chilling on the bedside table. A drawer full of new toys can come in handy too – along with a squeezy bottle of chocolate body paint. Success in the bedroom comes when you take things slow. Sensuality can’t be pushed.
Don’t Forget A Card
Amongst the flirting, remember Valentine’s Day isn’t all about the bedroom antics – sentimentality is key too. Your partner needs to know just how much they mean to you. A handwritten card will do the trick nicely. It doesn’t need to be a lovey-dovey essay, just a meaningful sentence or two that says I love you. Never underestimate the power of a card.
